WAKSA is pleased to announce the 2013 Winter Wave Comp which is a team event.
It will be held on the 17/18 August 2013.
Of course this is subject to final council approval and with Huey's support.
The Winter Wave Competition is based around a 4 person team format to be held at Leighton Beach.
Should there be no wind the back up dates will be the following week end (24th & 25th August).
Full details will be published in the next two days on www.waksa.org.au
An update for the winter comp
The Winter Kitesurf league is a winter competition designed to get the
kitesurfing community together for a fun competition on a stormy and otherwise
miserable day.
Teams will compete in an expression session format for the right
to be named the best team in WA. It will be a short competition to
take advantage of the wind generated by a moderate winter cold front.
Approximately 6 teams of 4 will compete in 4 heats including a final, being
judged by a panel of their peers, on an overall impression basis. Total
competition time will be 4 hours or less hopefully to completed in one
afternoon.
Each team needs to name a captain responsible for the team and a manger to
support the team - each team is its own on beach support and has responsibility
for looking out for each other.
The designated competition area at Leighton will depending on wind angle, the
biggest area would be no further south than the surf club, no further north
than the start of the reef, no further out than 200m.
So get your teams together, pray for wind and we will see you on the beach.
Comp briefing will be at the normal kiting spot at Leighton. Exact comp and
briefing times will be confirmed about two days before the comp, once
conditions allow.
Preliminary announcement - Winter wave comp deferred to 24/25 August
As of this morning the forecast is not looking good for this weekend. - Saturday hits 12/13 knots at about
8 am and stays there all day. Sunday is offshore.
We need a reasonable prospect of 4 hours of wind for the comp to run.
So this is a preliminary notice of deferral to next weekend 24/25 August.
We will make a final call and post a final confirmation on Thursday.
We have an awesome perpetual trophy being built. Teams are going to be competing for the right to be the first team / names on it.
Three teams are registered so far - SOS Fremantle, Scarborough and City Beach.
There is room for more so get your crew together and drop us a line at WAKSA to let us know you're in!
