For the guy who has a gun licence, doesnt need a ute and collects stickers

It's what we do out here in the high deserts of ca/nv/az, this baby has a 600HP twin turbo cummins diesel 4WD with a lift kit sit'n on 42" alcoa durabrite rims and yes it does have a gun rack for exercising my rights of The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution the right to bear arms it's what we redneck kitesurfers do

Any vehicle that I can get my board into without detaching the foil - managed it with a Barina - but no space for anyone else.

I've had a few short holidays in rural fishing towns along the WA coast this year and a lot of locals seem to have a toyota landcruiser of some description (arguments which model another topic).

here is a list of what the common specs are:
diesel, preferably v8 with turbo
2 fuel tanks for extended range
lift kit
muddies or at least all terrain tyres
bar work
LED lights

disclaimer: i can't afford one

Factory turbo 4.2 six over the v8 any day
Muddies are good of you like road noise and stalling in sand
ATs make more sense

Stalling in sand??...If your car is gutless, match the tyre to the car, pretty simple. You wouldn't put 35'MT on a Daihatsu.
Ive bounced back and forth between AT and Muddies and for dirt, sand they you cant compare.
Road noise is brand dependant as well, I had a set of cheep General AT's which were a lot louder than my current Micky Tompson Crawlers.
A good brand of muddie makes sense if you use a fourby for what is meant too!

give them a few k's and they will turn the volume up.
As for muddies in the sand theres been plenty of tests done that show AT's kill em in sand.
Any of these if there not on hire work for me www.ningalooexcape.com.au or last resort is the old cruiser ute.

Is that a Nissan patrol, 3ltr or 4.2, great units but 4.2 a bit thirsty, whats the 3.0ltr like on fuel?

The extra money you save on fuel for the 3ltr you will more than likely spend on an engine rebuild.

I did all the research and still chose the 2005 3ltr, which is past the worst of the engines. But I got one with the full NADS treatment (Nissan Anti Detonation System?) plus some other reliability add-ons which is stuff like:
EGR block
dawes valve
needle valve
pyro/turbo/oil pressure guages
catch can
3" exhaust
Uprated welded intercooler

And a few other bits and pieces.

It's not an ironclad guarantee of no boom, but it's enough for me not to stress.

I would say I get about 450-500kms from the normal tank which is about $70-90 to fill depending on diesel price.

Up until recently had a Peugeot 308 (RIP or rebirthed) and routinely got 5.5l/100km on the highway, so a trip to Rosie ~135km would cost a mere $8 so made the trip all the more worthwhile

suby on the other hand 8-9 if I am lucky

Because after learning to clap two sticks together we also realised that light made life easier! Your obviously at the two stick stage.

Pretty stoked on my amarok!
Big tray, lockable retractable tray lid, roof racks. Goes anywhere, but still real nice on road.

I'm just at the stage of using the stock lighting rather than wasting time upgrading to LED lights
more time for kiting
