Tried my local store (Surf Sail Aust) but they only had the previous version. The blades on the new version only have a single bevel edge, see pic.

Hoping for somewhere local (Perth) but will go overseas if need to.

Saw that one. It looks like the old version with a bevel on both sides of the blade.

The other difference is the throat is now narrower so impossible to cut even your pinkie.

Hello, Freddo,

One way of doing this is to ask your dealer to contact the DaKine importer, quote the SKU number (4620500) and find out when they will be available in Oz. Unfortunately, if the item is not in stock, my experience with DaKine gear is that the supply lines are erratic and deliveries slip back.

You might also try here:

They export product, but make sure they remove the VAT (equivalent of our GST) when you are getting prices. Surface mail or airmail for delivery (they will give you prices) and ask them to include an invoice with the goods, in case Oz Customs open the goods.

Too bad the OZ dollar has dropped recently.

Hope this helps.

Great idea, but.....

Seems Billabong was the distributer but they sold off Dakine last year. Looks like they are still handling some Dakine product but aren't too interested.

I've asked Dakine US, waiting on a reply from them.

And is also seems the SKU number is the same for the older version of the hook knife too, argh!!!

If it doesn't get real easy quickly I'll give up and gett a Captain Hook Knife instead, arrrr mee hearties.

The mystic one just looks a bit too small to get a real good grasp on it hence my preference for the dakine or captain hook. If I can't find one soon I might go the mystic anyway which seems to have good feedback.

I purchased a couple of captain hooks for my kitesurfing lessons boat, the blades did not last, bought extra, and smeared them in grease and wrapped them in glad wrap, they still corroded away. We just have a Dakine or Mystic on the boat now and replace each season. Hook knives need 2 blades set at a low angle to each other, then they work well and only need the slightest pressure to cut a line. Tested a Mystic on Saturday, cut a guys kite out of a tree at Dolls Point, it was hanging out of reach by the leach line in the trailing edge. One touch with the knife was all it took to release it.

Ok, I'll go with the Mystic one. How can I get one and how much? Had a look on your website and could only find the dakine one.

Also is it possible to get a slower/cheaper postage? I've screwed up my ankle for a couple of weeks so am in no rush.
