Anybody try kiteing with one? I'm interested in a small board to travel with for kiteing and surfing. Plus they look like there fun to surf.
I built one based on the traditional dimensions this year for surfing (5'11" by 23" and 3" thick with a thick S deck) Havent tried it kiting yet....It fun to surf and I am a tad bigger than you average kiter/surfer. I have a feeling that the wide tail flat rocker and fat profile and wide nose may be a handfull if the wind gets up but for sub 18 knots I think it will go ok.
The Mini simmons shape in general is similar to a choptop or north nugget, anything will work behind a kite. Depending your height/weight and skill (surf) level you could refine the traditional shape by pulling the nose and tail in a bit more and maybe a bit more rocker in the tail and going as short as possible?
Couple of photos of my fat betty. cheers
I want to make a hollow wooden one just like you have so the pics were fun to see, thanks. I'm a new kiter and the board does look like a lot to handle so I was just curious if anybody had tried kiteing with one. I weigh 105 kg so that might help me keep it under control.
There was a vid posted on here recently where one of the blokes was kiting with a mini Simmons... Had a quick look but can't remember what post it was.. Anyone remember??
Sick board, that thing will work in the waves too.
Check out MiniSimmonsSurfboards.com for lots of other great examples and tip on shaping these bad boys.
