I have a Mystic star 3/2 which I use in spring/autumn.
However I get too cold in it in Winter and usually put another 2mm top on top but it's not great.
Looking at getting a better Mystic such as the Majestic, just wondering whether 4/3 would be enough (considering the higher quality) or should I go 5/3 (not too restrictive?) ? I tend to get quite cold with my thin physique.
Thanks !
I have a 4/3 Ion wetsuit that I use all winter on the central coast which is a comparable climate. This last weekend which I consider pretty cold I was warm in it. I bought a wetsuit hood (the kind that connects under the chest zip flap) which kept me insanely warm and probably wouldnt get used on anything but the coldest days. For $50 or whatever it was i think its great value. I used to only ride in a Xcel infiniti 3/2 which was comparable to the ion. It was a much higher quality wetsuit though with sealed seams and sealed at wrists and ankles.
Thanks It was pretty cold last weekend which is what prompted me to think about getting a thicker suit...
I guess a quality 4/3 will do even though the extra 5 would be nice?!
I have a thermal rashie which I used under my wetsuit on the colder days, it does help.
Maybe go the 4/3 and then put the rashie underneath when it's super cold?
TheSquirrel is taking the piss because... where the hell are you lot from?
Sydney in winter is 3/2 steamer conditions.
If you are cold... your steamer is of low quality or old and has had its day.
I have a 5/4.... for winter in Ireland.
I wore 3/2 all last season, don't remember being cold when actually kiting other than when I came into beach between sessions, then its cold!
above suggested rashy underneath sounds worth a try tho :)
I can't work out now if you 5mm people are taking the piss... wow. I still say a good quality 3/2 is all you need, even for long sessions.
Are you wearing booties, gloves and hood also with your 5mm suits?
I can kind of see some people stepping up from 3/2 to 4/3 if you really suffer in the cold, but 5/4?
What would you guys do in a location with proper cold water and climate? I guess drysuit.
Do water sports shops in Sydney even sell drysuits?
Today's rig at Sandringham was 4/3 wetsuit, full thermals underneath, spraytop and wet socks. Lasted all day..

Buy them from overseas, approx $450, get ankle seals not latex socks.
