How to help old kooks land their doonahs!

Hi guys,

Lofty here again with another "how-to" on how to help someone land a foil kite.

What is a foil kite I hear you ask young ones?

A foil kite is NOT this...

Yeah the one you pump up!

A foil kite (or twin-skin, doonah, condom, rug, etc) is this!

The one you do not pump up. The wind pumps it up for you! Yay!

Now this video shows you what I mean, from 4:54 and you'll see the PROPER way of helping someone land their doonah!

Please note!

* Keep the side facing the rider UP at all times. Do not let the kite roll over onto it's stomach (ie: keep the back of the kite - the part facing away from the rider - down). This is to avoid bridle tangles. Yeah, I may want to relaunch it again later.
* Please note on the video the bit about catching the WING TIP! Do not grab a foil kite by the leading edge and park it like any other pump-up type of kite.
* AND PLEASE, stay put with your hands or your feet on top of the wing-tip! Do not walk away before the rider has approached and got hold of his kite. Some of you put a measly hand-full of sand and think it's going to hold the kite down in 25knots! Ugh uh... please stay there!

It's not rocket science!

Just as a filler, this video is the crappiest way of explaining it and I would not walk to the rider. The rider should be the one walking to you the assistant, to take the tension out of the lines.

So noobs - if some old bald fart like me comes up to you and asks you to please help me land my foil kite, now you know!

Capish?!

ps. I have both LEI and foil kites, so please don't tell me to get a pump up kite instead.

Sorta sounds like you are telling people off in advance.

Yep. You've got it!

I've ended up on bushes and snake zones (grass areas between shore line and car park), thanks to yuppies that have no idea. Sorry had to say it as it is

If you can't self-launch and -land foils, you shouldn't be kiting.

Show me your solo land of a foil in a 40 knot squall without tangling the bridles and I will buy you either a cup or tea or a chocolate fish! What ever you prefer.

What would that prove? Except you're an idiot for not keeping a weather eye on the horizon, don't know local conditions, and choose your gear poorly?

You

Hey Kami - seriously - get a life man. You have not contributed into the forums in ANY positive way for months. You really need to loosen that chip on your shoulder all the time. Must be the winds at your local?

I mean really what's the deal dude? Does everything I say upset you?

More nonsense.

So, what's it like being a town? Did you have to apply to be a town or are you just born into it?

The green thumbs are speaking in this thread too I see...

oh man i havent had a choclate fish in ages!

okay so here is what i do

just pull break and weightshift till it stalls then push alternative riser untill it yaws enough into a twist then grab both sets of d risers yank them to your knees while walking forward :D or else the even easier less showy is just slam down the a's and b's if theyre not allready down itll ful frontal drop to feet dive on that ****er like the last bita pork at a all blacks hungy

with a kite i just concertina it in a reverse cobra on end of wind window .... very very easy and can do it in 40 knots if i was ever insane enough to be out on a foil in 40

Maybe I the only one on this thread that's flown a foil in 40+ knots?

Lofty why don't you just do what the rest of the foil kiters do and use one of these to self land?

Im loving that foils are back in fashion ! Ive had so, so many sketchy self landings over the years but recently fellow kiters seem to more willing to help. Mind you, someone did ask me if my hydrofoil was "a board stand" the other day...

The word foil should have been left alone to describe the kite. Foil board should have been called mini yachts, keels or something else.
