Am looking at buying a trainer kite for myself and for the family . Can someone please give me some guidance on size . Do they both have the same control or is the smaller one a bit more skitish. I am 110kg so i want to be able to feel some power. Daughter and wife are around 60kg ea but they might only fly it once or twice.
G'day frosty i'm 78kg and i own a 2.5 ozone imp.Its got heaps of power when the wind is blowing 20knts or more and you fly it through the power zone and great safety system.the only other trainer i'd be tempyted to buy is a ozone uno as these are inflatable and close to the bigger kites which means they can be crashed in water without any dramasonly downfall is they are a bit more expensive and dont come with bar and lines
Thanks Marty . Yeah looked at the uno but a little pricey and at least there is minimal set up with the imp. No one stocks the 2.5 in bris they all only carry the 1.5. Cheers
Hi Frosty,
I've got a 2.5 imp and would not get anything smaller. I weigh about 93kg.
It may be a little too much for the family though.
cheers
Greg
Hey Jackson from Kitepower in redcliffe here, we usually have the 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 in stock.
We are currently out of stock of the 2.5 but they are on order and should be in soon.
However I mostly advise our customers to go for a 1.5 as they are all you really need to progress your kite flying skills and I have had a few occasions shown customers how to set them up and found myself overpowered in the park.
Give us a ring tomorrow if you would like to know when the 2.5s are coming in or drop down and pick up a 1.5

just wondering,
These trainer kites,
do you just fly them in a park, or are they good enough to use in the water,
For like let's say, learning to start off, or body dragging ?

You could fly a trainer while in the water but if you crash them in the water they will fill up. Currently the only trainer foil that will re-launch from the water is the HQ Hydra-
For power go with the HQ Hydra 350, it will drag you down the beach in strong wind but still fun to fly in very light breeze (5-10 km/h). Also very easy to relaunch on land or water which is good if your flying it by yourself. Bit pricey but good fun.
If you want a water relaunchable trainer go the Ozone Uno, but if you're ready for the water, you're probably ready for a full-sized kite.
I have flown stunt kites before, so I know about the power window,
but that's the extent of it,
I'm not ready for the water, but figured If I do decide to get a trainer ,
It may as well be one I can practice self rescue with,
and body dragging, (or board retrieval )

Not sure on the Imp as I haven't flown one - but I highly recommend a trainer. I have had a Slingshot B2 trainer for approx 9 years and keep it in the car always. Heaps of fun to fly. I fly it when I take my kids to the beach or waiting for the wind to come up.
Even if you are ready for the water I think they are great.
Mine is in between so can't comment on the right size of these.... 2m works for me.
Hi frosty, I have a Ozone Imp 3.5m and am really glad i didn't go any smaller. I am 75kg and have flown it in 25knots and still didn't feel over powered.
Sure it will give you a pull but the safety system is so good that if you get freaked, you just let the bar go and the kite collapses instantly. My wife who weighs 60kgs has used it as well and she managed fine.
Would be a shame to pick one up and after 30 mins wish you went bigger.
Hey frosty had my first lesson yesterday and wish i had spent the extra and got a uno instead of the imp,not only is the uno good for the water but because it uses a normal 4 line bar it teaches about powering and depowering the kite
You can get a 2.5m imp in Bris if you look hard enough. This is a good choice of kite as it gives you more feel than a 1.5
Don't know if this reply is too late, but I was looking at an IMP 2.5 as well.
I had a good chat to the bloke that I am going to have lessons with and he pointed me in a different direction because of what I want to do with the trainer.
It would be well worth asking a good coach/trainer their advice.
I've ordered a Flexifoil Quark - www.powerkiteshop.com/flexifoil_quark_trainer_kite.htm
As well as using this as a trainer for the whole family, my young bloke will use it on his mountain board on the beach. Apparently it has all of the Imp features, but also has a chicken loop so he can use it on a harness as well.
Thanks for that . Had a look at the site and have to agree the chicken loop would be handy. Have you ordered it through that site or locally. Thanks for your help
