Hi everyone, i am looking at getting into the sport.
I was wondering what suggestions you all had to the type and size of trainer kite i should buy.
Should it be a water relaunch able type as in the HQ hydra, or go the normal as in the rush or the ozone imp etc.
I have had a cheap 1.2mtr foil kite with bar just for mucking about with the kids but it's nearly dead and before i go for lessons later in next year i would like to have a decent trainer to really get kite control well and truly in hand, or at least understand what's going on.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Merry Xmas to everyone out there
Hey peter,
The reality of it is that the type and size really don't matter as long as you are flying some sort of controllable kite.
Stunt kite, small foil or trainer it doesn't matter.
Jas
Thanks Jas
Been fooling with stunt kites a bit, i guess landing them by sliding them down onto the tip at the edge of the window will help a bit when it comes to big kite control i guess.
Never saw it that way before.
Ozone Imp is a great choice and if your kids may want to try kiting it will serve them well too.
I believe SHQ have several in stock right now.
Peterdj ozone do the uno a inflatable, which can be flown on any 4 line equal line length bar , you've got to treat a real sized kite with a lot more respect, id go for some lessons then a 7or 8that you could then use as part of your quiver, the ozone catalyst is a great kite that will take you through beginner intermediate and beyond, speak to your local kite school
I bought a 1.5m foil 2 line kite for $30 off eBay. Made the lines equal length at about 20m the attached the lines to either ends of a broom handle cut to about 40cm (can't remember exactly). It flew great and when finally got to fly a real kite I picked it up straight away and it felt natural. Just my 2c. I don't think there is any need to spend $300 on a trainer kite. Put that money into a lesson or gear.
Thanks everyone, plenty to think about there.
Saving money for lessons is a good one. There are for and against for each way of doing it really.
Only one thing is a must, and that's lessons i guess how you get there is a personal preference type thing
