My Comments:
After spending a few months testing the prototype the production model doesn't disappoint in any way, shape or form. It is still a swept back design (similar to DELTA C)
The first thing I noticed was that the one pump system has been modified slightly to work even better.
The bar is brand new for 2009; the Switchcraft II now has 3 different safety options for different kite styles. It has the 5th line option for the larger sizes of Mr. F and the Prima Donna3 range. The 4 line mode can be used in two different ways so when the safety is released the kite either de-powers onto one of the front lines or can be easily changed to release onto both the front lines which is better for freestyle/wake as the kite de-powers and sits in the launch position until you regain the bar.
Setting up the kite is simple, the bridal has 3 attachment points along the LE, the attachment points closest to the centre strut is where the 5th line Y bridal attaches if required (kite not tested in this mode).
Flying the kite was smooth with plenty of de-power when needed. I must say that the Mr. F probably has the same amount of low end grunt as the Bandit Dos. I was enjoying myself and doing a few wake style moves even in 11knots as well as staying upwind. There were two kiters out at the same time, one on a 16m Naish with the Naish Custom 139 light wind board and a Blade Vertigo 14m on a 145cm board. The 16m was doing well however the 14m was struggling.
I tested the re-launch and found that in the light winds it helped if the de-power trim was all the way in with the bar sheeted out, however in the 14knot gusts the kite easily rolled onto its side and made its way to the edge of the window. I was using the bar in the wake safety setting and after crashing and letting go of the bar the kite was already waiting for me to grab the bar and re-launch it.
I can't wait to test the 12m in higher winds as well as the 10m as JN have designed all the Mr. F kites slightly differently.
Will keep you posted.......
My overall impression is - If you are looking for a grunty kite with one pump then this is the kite to have.
Forgot to mention that the Mr F comes in the following sizes:
4.5m, 6.0m, 8.0m, 10.0m and 12.0m
JN Australia are also looking for team rider in QLD, WA and NSW
I was the photographer taking the photos not the rider. Therefore I wasn't kiting at Gladstone Road.
The testing was done at another location about 5 hours away.
Thanks for your concern tho Brett.
Kiting at Gladstone Rd when the council has banned kiting and the residents are on the warpath is really smart. Obviously you think organising a photo shoot in a banned location is OK.
Next thing you will be doing is teaching at Gladstone Road without any IKO accreditation or insurance or are you doing that already?
How about doing the right thing by the kiting community and SAKSA and play where your welcome.
And no, I am not Hobie.
Tino kites look sick, when you coming back up to whyalla so we can give some of them a go the only insurance you will need is to get protection from me but i normaly would just take your lunch money and then you can kite our beach all year around. ha...ha![}:)]
Hey Waxy,
Might come up for a weekend when the tide is right and the wind is good!!! Got my van all set up for it now. THe new kites are good. The PD3s have so much power for freestyle that some of the Euro riders are staying on PD2s because they are soft! The Mr Fs are grunty suckers with one pump - bonus all round. Plus the bar allows for multiple safety systems.
Let me know when its on and I'll come up. Get Easto down too.
