My Comments:
Hey all.. I am coming of a Cabrinha Custom 144.. (coz you ride them a size bigger due to the amount of rocker they have)...
I am looking at getting a new board.. 3 contenders I guess at the minute...
* Xenon LaLauz
* Nobile NHP
* Naish Momentum
Any thoughts or experiences (good AND bad) is much appreciated...
One size bigger I know guys your size ridding cab boards with boots smaller than that.
At 95 kgs you are going to be looking for a board that is around 134-138 in size, Im your size and ride a 135 tempo at the moment and love it on flat water but doesn't feel as good as my NHP for carving in surf. The 134 nobile NHP is a good board for freestyle and carves very well in the waves and they have a top quality build. the other board i have ridden lately is a FOne Acid it has weird rails but it's a better alround board than both of the above especially for carving.
The LaLauz is a good board for everything, if you believe all the hype on it so is definitely worth a demo. Do a search on Seabreeze there are a lot of reviews on them. they do look like they are well built.
There are a lot of good boards around this year so get out there and try them all.
i cant comment on the other boards but i am super happy with the laluz if you are heading down altona at all pm me and i will let you have a run on mine its 135 and i am around 90 kg they love to carve i think the large fins (54mm) help. they do live up to the hype and seem to do all things really well
r1mick i would check out the Cardboards Tempo if your tilted more towards freestyle, it does go well in chop with a fairly soft ride having soft flexy tips and a solid mid section. Crazy pop and for your weight i would go for the 140
If you want something more for caving and TT riding in the waves i would go for the FR, it is a flatter rocker line but still a comfortable ride. Has all the pop you would want for the flat water stuff and handles chop well.
Both these boards are really fast and have been my favorite boards to ride over all the boards i have ever tried.
hope this helps!
My current board is 132 FLX & i,m into freeride / surf.
I had all 3 boards for demo unfortunately couldn't find any wind for the La Lauz.
The NHP 134 (2010) was a nice smooth ride but to me felt a bit slow seemed to push a bit of water when underpowered which i did not like.
The Momentum 134 (2011) was a surprise to me as i was not expecting to like it as it looked to have similar rocker to the NHP, I really liked it,s fast and lively feel...maybe a touch skatey.
I will try to again demo the new La Lauz and Momentum.
i have gone from a 140 custom to a 138 momentum- probably could have gone the 134 momentum but really like the ride- wasn't unhappy with the custom either though- my main differences are below
missed the rocker from the custom on landings
found upwind ridiculously better on the momentum
foot pads and straps are better on custom but momentums are still good
momentum rides faster than the custom
both boards handled the choppy conditions where i ride- hope that helps.
yep the customs are definitely not flash upwind but so long as you're powered they are just so much fun to ride. the rocker combined with curvy outline makes them carve hard and fast better than anything i've ridden. landings are great, they handle chop well, and take a beating too. for choppy conditions and waves you may not find a better board, depending on your preferences...
