Best full deck grip for my strapped big airs?

Riding eps at the moment. Will a PU help the feel of the straps,or just squark at me like poly?

Im finding the diamonds on my tail pad make my eyes shimmer too much strapped up

I don't know about the best deck grip, but some of them hold water. I'm using SUP grip, cut to preference.

Full deck grip for the win. Straps or not! There are a bunch of hot young surfers rocking full deck grip.

If you head to any good surf store purchase this:

Apply it like this:

Or maybe your style is this:

In the water, your board could look like this:

Good for turns:

Works better than straps for airs:

Haha.

I have recently purchased for my 7'2" mini mal, the malibu full deck diamond-shaped pads from Squid and they seem fine to lie on (and surf on) but are slightly "spongy" so I roughed them up a bit, literally scratching them with a fork to try to make them sharper/rougher!!!
www.squid.net.au/surf-board-grips?product_id=59

Without doubt though, the coarsest deck grip is the small rectangle and squares of the Creatures of Leisure deck pads http://www.creatures.com.au/collections/traction/products/grip-sheet-black-510mm-x-510mm you can cut and stick as appropriate. I have added portions to my Cabrinha Trigger 2014 kitesurf surfboard in the spaces between their hex pads and on my shortboard where my back foot (just a 10cm wide strip ahead of existing deck pad) and front foot land. I placed some leftover Squid grip mainly where my chest presses against for paddling.

I have always obsessed about surfboard wax and constantly wax-combed it while waiting in the line-up...I genuinely feel full deck grips the go!

PS. I read the weight of these grips is a deterrent...interestingly the afternoon I removed all the wax from my mini mal and shortboard, each had enough crappy old surfboard wax, to match the weight and size of a cricket-ball!!! The pads are very light in reality and are being used for surfing by some like Jack Freestone...www.facebook.com/159288637460853/photos/a.724218994301145.1073741828.159288637460853/816564755066568/?type=1&theater!

Can anyone please recommend the best way to clean all the old wax off your board so it's ready to stick on the new grip?

I've got an epoxy and was thinking about using metho

I would scrape the bulk off with a plastic scraper/putty knife and then use metho. Once it's clean go over a couple of times with dish detergent and water and dry with an old t shirt. Wax contains a percentage of oil so the detergent breaks that down and also breaks down the oil in the metho. I used metho on an epoxy board I have to remove tape glue and it had no ill effects.

Mineral Turpentine. Was told by a surf shop thats what the wax remover they sell basically is, but without the smell. Worked well on my epoxy board.

Scrape off as much wax as possible ,
Use some very hot water with a rag and wipe off remaining wax,
grab some metho or acetone./nail polish remover, pour it on a clean rag & wipe vigorously.
then use fine coarse sandpaper & lightly sand where you are going to lay the grip (mark out with pencil first)
Ive used this method with loads of boards and never had a drama.

Not advisable to use mineral turps as it is oil based (not much sticks to oil)

I don't understand deck grips to start with, let alone cutting one up to go around a logo...
The question is, would you wax around it if you didn't have the pad?

The answer to your question SB - Is..........NO

I picked this ( cutting around the logo ) idea up online, these shapes are pretty fugly so they do need all the help they can get.

For kiting only, I'll take grip over wax any day but each to their own.

Stickers go underneath for when I'm busting big airs, great idea for the gojoe - I took mine off a while back cause I thought they weren't cool anymore.

Its just sitting there with the reel-leash & impact vest.

What Tomo doesn't know won't hurt him

Your bets bet and cheapest is....

www.squid.net.au

They have full deck grips and sheets you can cut to size.

I have full deck drip on my high wind boards and I ride strappless and strapped and I ride with wax as well (not at the same time flamers).

Full deck grip is great protects the board a bit (you still get heel dents) but of course make the board heavier.

You can also check out....

http://www.ajsp.com.au/hydroturf

They are a jet ski pad supplier, they seem a bit heavy though.

^^^^^Blows me out how they can get a no grab air in offshore conditions^^^^^^ What a bummer the Quicky pro wasn't last week; pumping with a SE wind. Would have been an aerial/barrell fest.

Here is your boards cousin toppleover.

I only ever wax my paddle surf boards. For kiting I've been through wax only (cheapest and easiest)..... wax over clear grip (this work well if you have a board you want to paddle as well)..... and now I like full deck grip to kite. Protects your boards a bit and ankles. Like comparing 'clogs to havianas' . Old feet and ankles need all the help they can get. On the board pictured where the grip is cut round the decal is exactly where I grab. Your thumb slots behind the grip to give a more solid grab. There are a lot of guys shredding on different equipment. Doesn't matter what anyone else does; just ride your own way and mix it up to see what works for you.

Your custom looks like the newer Vader shape pearl?

The more I ride my 5'2 the more I like it.

No it's a real one hand shaped by tomo. its a 5'2" 4oz pu vader I use for kiting. I have a 5'4" hand shaped by tomo vanguard I surf on. Also a 5'3" copy pu heavy glassed 6oz pu kite board. My newest board is a 5'2" x 17 7/8 firewire vader epoxy, that I paddle surf on. I kind of wrote off the firewires but this board is unbelievably good. My go to board 1-6 foot. Up there with the best boards I've ever had.
