My Comments:
Today we flew the Griffin TRX 14m in 3-4 knots on the beach, it was to light to go out on the water but good on the beach. This kite turns like other manufactures 9m kites as you can see it develops its own apparent wind in 3 knots, kite loops very easy.
Looks like it turns like a 14 to me, Looks smooth , love to see a 17 tested in 10 knots that's more like to conditions a heavy rider wants to get out in and then the review becomes useful . Anyone ?, big place the world but no one seems to be able to show us the 17 in action in very low wind. Anyone ????
this is crazy. not to say that it doesn't do what you just said, but don't put up a review until you have had the chance to fly it in real conditions. To say that a kite is great when all you are doing is flying it on the beach is ridiculous and makes people turn away from a product and ignore further reviews. Fly the damn thing, then tell us what you like about it IN REAL CONDITIONS.
Hey guys sorry to offend (just thought it may be of interest while your looking at your PC and not kite-flying) We would have been out on the water but it really was way to light, you can see that in the video 10 loops sitting on your butt, if it were 10 knots you'd be pulled all over the place. I will post real conditions as soon as we get the wind. I will say the TRX is a very agile and fast turning kite that will prove to be very popular in any size.
Happy flying
Sorry to get cranky about it, and I do look forward to hearing more about the new line of Griffen kites. I have a couple being sent down in a few weeks and will get a chance to put them through a pace or two out in the surf.
I guess what has been bothering me lately is the old "pulls like a (x) and turns like (y). Where we live it is almost impossible to demo anything, and we look to honest reviews to get an idea on kite performance based on the style we as individuals like to ride.
I hope this kite lives up to the hype. Would love a nice light wind option that you can relaunch in the surf...
I'd strongly guess that the author just took the p1ss in this "review"
Entertaining read nonetheless.
wow,,,more monkey griffen kite pimps. They might have to sponser this site soon for their free advertising
Guys
I did declare my position (AGENT).
The video is raw not tampered with in any way.
If you don't like Griffin Kites fine, don't buy one!
So call me a Pimp see if I care.
All I can tell those that have a genuine interest in the sport of Kite surfing is before you spend your hard earned money demo these kites, they are quality, they do what Griffin say they do and at a price no other manufacture can match.
Your money, your choice, no pimping, just due diligence required.
If you don't believe the video for what it is then get a demo and see for yourself before you damn in ignorance!
Those that bag on this forum with out actual knowledge of the product take the easy route or have a vested interest, demo it then give back constructive critique which will serve everyone here and make our sport better don't drag us through the mud with cheap jibes and unfounded criticism!
We don't need forum bullies here!!!!
You can't call someone a bully for taking you to task on your 3-4 knot claim...
You could have maintained some credibility and just called it sub 10 knots...
3-4 knots just sounds stupid
The doctor has a good point. Someone get him a T-Shirt.
It does sound a little absurd, but I'm sure Peter wouldn't make something like that up, as he would surely know that he would get comments like he has.
yeh sub 10, would have worked. But I say let the demo's tell the story.
..and to all the newbs watching and learning wait until you have seen a number of independent reviews. I'll be doing one when my damn farqin ankle heals. Apparently you are not meant to keep the same water proof dressing on for a week after the op'. Lucky I have a emergency GP living across the road!
Proof will be in the pudding, but I thought it was very cool seeing a kite loop and stay in the sky in such sub 10 knots (yeh give him a tshirt).
Rather than bag him and pull out the old pimping crap, just let the experienced riders out there have their say. Man, all brands and their agents have to put their best foot forward, just chill and let's see.
also at least we have something to look at, during what is the ****tiest time of year for wind addicts.
ps Poor timing on product release...
No problem with a demo at Northern Suburbs. I had a Sector 60 with me but as I said in the post “it was too light to go out on the water but good on the beach". While the kite was moving there was plenty of grunt to keep you going on the Sector BUT if you dropped the kite in the water in such low winds it would not relaunch. Did not fancy the swim back! I had measured the wind on the beach with a hand held anemometer showed 3-4.2 knots and it's a new meter.
Yes, I could have said it was sub 10 knots but I'd rather tell it as it is.
Your kite is just a wing it will generate lift (GRUNT) if air is moving over it, so wind passing over it or you moving it through the air is the same thing. However if you stop moving it in little or no wind then there is insufficient lift so down she comes.
I am a Pilot and Flying Instructor so forgive me for pointing this out.
An aircraft can only get off the ground in still air conditions because of thrust forward which creates air movement over the wing (lift) so the same applies to our kite. The lighter and more efficient the kite is the better its ability to fly in light wind. Also, the faster it can turn at the edge of the window the better it can maintain its lift and speed. The TRX is light and turns fast and so allows you to better exploit this area of kiting, it's not magic just good aerodynamics.
So yes, a kite can fly in 3-4 knots BUT you need to keep it moving if you take it to 12 o'clock and stop it there it may well fall out of the sky!
Happy Flying
Contact Griffin and see if you can get a demo in your area. I can tell you it turns faster than this make 9m or that make of 9m kite the proof is in the eating as they say give it a try.
Can be a tough crow Pete as I've found out. Lol. My suggestion, leave it now, and let the demo reviews speak for themselves. They will play the light fandango on any words you use now.
Hey pete i did demo a 12m trx and it was no faster than my 12m best taboo.
Its clowns like u that make reviews pointless.
