Thumbs Up

Bar 53cm eleveight.world/kite/bars/cs-auto-bar/
Line length 22m
Weight 80kg

Now Im the first person who once upon a time, thought the edges were a slow turning pig... 10m and above, its still true but that's ok for their intended use. From the V11 9m and smaller, they changed the kite to significantly turn faster - Jaime Overbake rocking the Big Air world podium on one - it was bound to happen.

Now the jump timing of the Edges is different and when I first rode one (a V11 8m) I had to spend a day in around 20 knots getting used to it. What stands out about the edge is how aerodynamic stable it is in strong winds and how easily it reacts to slight wind increase with lift.
The 8m is fast turning and excellent for loops from 5m high to Mega Loops. You do have to fly it with more input to get the max from it. For me It felt 90% there but just needed a little more float..

This is where the 9m V12 comes into it - hoping it would fill the gap. I'd read all the reviews and watched all the videos and what was said is that the V11 would overfly on some landings so not very good for down winders or wave riding unless you flew it with more input than normal.

V12 First session - a whole lot more grunt and has the missing float / hangtime of the 8m v11 But...
The kite sits back in the window like a normal kite, yes this means you can throw anything at it and it will just happily drift back into place... Great for the average joe plug and play kiter.

Personally, I liked how my 8m V11 would hunt the edge of the window and crank crazy upwind angles. This also translates to more vertical takeoff lift for big air. So thought about it for awhile and decided to try a bridal mod as I have some experience doing this.. If it didn't work, just put it back to standard and carry on..

The Mod:
I shortened the single bridal line closest to the centre of the kite by 2 inches.
Bingo - now you can see the kite surge forward and hunt the edge of the window.
Test session - 20 35 knots.
It jumps much better. Loops faster and Heli loops further behind you, giving you more lift as it swings around. to the front.
Im happy with that :)

How not to choke your edge to Death

Ok this is a common problem that most riders do not realize their doing... thus giving it a a bad rep of being slow turning especially while looping the kite. Firstly you have to understand that the kite has to breathe in order to loop fast annnnd fly back up to 12 !
The video where Jaime said he likes the lowest knot on the bar for more power, is to suit HIS Pro skills - Not average joe kiter. This is why people are having back stall turn problems confusing it with power... Two different things and directions.

The ideal start point for medium to strong winds is to have it trimmed on land, so when you pull the bar full down - the kite will stop directly above you at 12. This will translate to a small amount of back stall when on the water. Unless its Nuking, I'll only jump when a gust hits the kite.
When you jump, at the peak, feather the bar so you can feel where the lift holds you neutral Without choking the kite.
Wherever that position is - will give you the fastest Fish pole full loop turn back to 12.
Once you understand where that point is (it can vary but still same feeling) - throw the loop just before the top of your jump...
and you'll suddenly realize how fast the Edge can Loop :)
