Hi guys,

What happened to the Chrono 2? Any news about this kite would be appreciated?

Cheers

It will be released very soon, it will be aimed more towards freeride and foiling rather than all out race. More info to come soon :)

Wow, the wind must have known we just received an R1. Jordan arrived at shop around 2pm, the bay was glass. Him being the eternal optimist, was determined that a localised NE would arrive in an hour.

3pm and sure enough we can see the NE coming on the water, get down to the beach (dolls point), came through at 10knots initially. Launched the R1 and inflated within 30sec, a lot quicker than I remember with the Chrono so the extra vents definitely help and the wing tips don't fold in as easily.

Got dragged around while waiting for Jordan, kite felt great. Fast, stable and very powerful through the window. Gave him the kite and once he got out deep enough, one loop and he was up foiling on his Lister. I thought the wind was around 6-8 by then but he could swear it was less, I'll trust him as he goes out in those conditions a lot more than I. Looking at Kurnell, it was definitely down to 6-7 while he was out, had to come in once it hit 4 knots around 4pm but the kite still stayed in the air easily.

I'll let him put up a proper review. All I can say is I'm even more impressed with this than when I first flew the Chrono.

A whole lot less interest on here for the r1. Seems to just be a reseller fest. Wonder if this 60 hr bridle change is killing it for everyone bar the absolute die hard racers?

This is the first session on the first r1 to arrive in Aus. Give it a few weeks, many more are on the way

There has been an offical update on the bridal & speed system, and its not that there is a requirement to replace after 60 hours. Ozone website has been updated.

The details are also very clear, R1 is high end race kite. Chrono V2 bullet proof everday free-ride.
The race results of the R1 todate speak for themselves, it was build to be the fastest & win races at the highest lest level of competition, and so it is

Ozone R1- 11m review

Rider
Weight: 85kgs
Style: racing, foiling
Board: spotz 2
Skill: can tack and gybe
I buy my own stuff

Got my hands on a R1 through Max VMG in Perth (They were very helpful and delivered earlier than I expected). Have used it twice. The only other race foil kite I have tried is a Flysurfer sonic 11m (twice). Since I have bought the R1 to improve my performance when racing I feel I can only properly give it a review after I have raced other people, and I haven't had the chance yet (Jono Keys refused to line up next to me :) I'm not really interested in how a kite feels or looks or how well it relaunches and those other things people talk about. Just performance. One detail not related to performance is how small and light it packs up, tinny and light! Perfect for traveling with.

I can say that the R1 in comparison to my edges is a massive improvement in performance, I have lined up against some guys on inflatable kites. I'm pointing higher and going faster upwind relative to my previous performances. Downwind I'm pointing lower and going faster. In comparison to my inflatables it feels like the 11m R1 has a larger wind range. I've been in 5- 18knots already and haven't had a problem. Any experienced racers making the switch to foil kites: I don't think you will have too much trouble using either sonic or R1. Totally ridable. Maybe just when you are standing on the beach the foil kite sits so much further forward in the window and needs constant attention. Everything else seems to make sense. Turning a foil kite is a bit different and finding the power stroke is a bit different timing. The race foil kites don't pull as much when they are turning. I did feel that the R1, relative to the sonic, had less of the wing tip folding in problem that foil kites have.

I am stoked that I have a race foil kite! I think everyone needs to upgrade to race foil kites in order to improve performance in racing, speed, and boosting. For me price and availability were hugely important. I'm leaving in a couple of weeks to go to some comps (i'll report back again). The R1 seemed to have good feedback from international racers so I went with it. So far I'm very happy with it. I think i'll be competitive with the R1 no mater which foil kite I line up against. Wether the R1 is the absolute best race kite out of all race kites Sonic, Elf, Fone.. I think we have to wait a bit longer. But I will preach that upgrading to any race foil kite is a must. So much nicer. Flatter, more efficient profiles. Looks more like a sail should be rather than a inflatable circle in the air.

Was looking at 6m r1 on the weekend. Awesome piece of kit. My buddy cranked out 88kph in his kite buggy on it.

19m & 11m R1 have arrived, locked in a session on each over the weekend and am blown away!!!
While cruising clocked up a 27.7knots in 9-12 knots on the 19m!
Will write up a review after a few more sessions on each and once i get my head around how to explain these kites

If you keen to take one for a blast, shoot me a PM and we can make arrangement.

Also got the 8m arriving next week

Hi,

It would be also cool, if you write a comparison to the Chrono1. Ozone just say the points, which they improved. Would be interesting if there is anything worse. ( like in tricky condition)

And maybe you find someone who races short against you for fun with the Chrono1 and afterwards you change the kites and do the same.

I can't imagine that the performance is so much better than the Chrono1. I trust Ozone that the R1 is better, but the question is, if 3% more Performance justify the high price. XD If the R1 is much better, the distance between the R1 and the Elf/North foils has to increase much in comparison to last year in races.........

My call without doing a direct comparison size for size would be that there will be a small increase in performance.

So the question for you would be this.

Are you racing for the world title and need every small advantage to win? If yes then instantly upgrade.
If you race for enjoyment not at a world cup level then does it really matter? race your chrono until you are no longer competitive.

I don't race on the water but do race the kite buggy. We have a cross section of every type of kite from fixed bridle race kites to open cell depower to lei to close cell depower race kite. The top 3-4 rider will be on different types of kites. The guy with the best set up of the day will win. But only if he makes Zero mistakes. Make one mistake and you loose.....
