Does anyone know where I can demo a Tona Pop in Melbourne?
Tore the footstrap insert out of my current board so thought it's a perfect excuse to get a new board. Looking to try one out as I've heard nothing but good reviews
Sangas,
I have a 142 pop and live in geelong if you wanna have a go.
Ok so its a little heavier then some other high rocker performance boards, BUT its going to last.
supper thick layer underneath so you can smash it over rocks till your heats content.
Ive found it to be very good up wind compared to my other board (find 135)
I thought my old board popped off the water well, that was until I jumped on the pop... super easy pop with smooth landings.
The channels underneath gives it super steady carving which really helps when your super overpowered.
Ive found this board is also really good for carving through shtiy slop like in the bay, with out spray back in your face.
If you can get a demo that's great, but you wont be disappointed.
Call steve at KSS and he will def look after you, he might even have a demo.
Edit: I also bought it with out demoing!!!
kemp, I've got a F-one Unik was my first board and I've only had it for 18 months so will look at getting it repaired but get a new board as well.
Suniboy, thanks heaps for the offer but I'm in Melbourne and almost never travel Geelong way unless for work. Will definitely give KSS a call. Great to hear some more great reviews on the board though! And do you ride boots or straps?
Haha yeh i tore all the stitching on my boots the other day for the second time. I forgot how much it sux wearing in new boots.
I had a go on the pop mad board but what's the flow like at going up wind in light wind . For sumeone at 85 kg
Thanx for that man I'm always in chop an Sea breezes most times so will go pop . What size 138 or 142
Hey Sangas, did you end up getting a demo? If not I can try and call around for you and try to get a demo shipped to a local shop or something.
Also as far as getting upwind with a Flow, the best advice Dre told me was it's less about putting all that weight on your backfoot and edging and more about pointing.
I checked out The Zu and they only had a Flow in stock but figured out a friend of a friend has one that I might be able to demo. Either way, I'll most likely buy one in the next couple of weeks.
So what was the verdict. im looking at a new boots board and not sure weather to get the flow or the pop. i ride a bit of all conditions but do have a lot of light wind days... im currently on a 135 select. but will be getting a 140+ tona.. really stuck on weather to go the FLOW or POP.
Makntracks, what are you local conditions like in terms of chop/smooth?
How much do you weigh? And what exactly counts as a "light wind day" for you?
In Darwin, always small chop, very rare we get it glassy tho.. I'm 85kg(90wet) would be going the biggest size board I could just for if the wind drops off.. We get real light wind days not uncommon for me to be out on a 17m 50% of the year.. But when it gets really light I'll be on a nugget so it's more of a higher wind board. As I said I ride a 135 now and it's hardly a light wind board but it is an upwind machine tho..
Hope that makes done sence..
Makes sense for me.
For you, I'd probably suggest a 142 Pop. The Flow is an awesome board. It's the board I grab more often then not, but it's also a board that's a LOT more fun fully powered.
I can make more magic happen in lower winds with the Pop. It's a board that really loves to point its nose upwind. I'm 63 kg, ride a 138 Pop and 136 Flow. I'm based out in California. In <13 knots, I can ride a 12m Vegas and a 138 Pop with boots upwind with no issues. Can get some decent pop out of the water in light winds, stuff like backrolls or raleys are within reason.
Same conditions, same kite, and the 136 Flow becomes somewhat of a slog. I end up having to really work things to get going and get upwind. I mean I could probably go for some sent jumps, but load and pop based tricks are probably not gonna happen. It's just the nature of having a lot more rocker on the Flow.
The way I like to explain it to people is, think of the Flow as a Cadillac and the Pop as a souped up muscle car. I LOVE the Flow. Love it to tiny tiny little pieces. But, in lower wind conditions I do end up going for my Pop.
I really appreciate the info... I've done a lot of research and think I might bight the bullet on a 144 flow.. When it's to light for that and a 17m dyno I think I'll just give up..
The flow still has good pop relative to a free ride board tho correct???
Hey mate I was out on my flow yesterday, first time in ages, and had ball. I was useing the pop on Sunday doing some hectic loops and the landings were hard and fast, ended up with a crook ankle. went out yesterday with a limp, doing the same big loops and didn't hurt my ankle once. Such feel nice board.
I find I can get some sweet pop on the flow, to me it feels like it releases of the water really easy, not sure if anyone else notices it but I feel I get a better pop off the tona flow then the tona pop.
What tona board for some one 100kg coming from a 133 cab prodigy? Will be using in bay and hopefully flatter water of Inverloch
Learning to pop etc now
