Have been kite surfing using the ozone reo 12m ,in abut 13knot cross off wind, over head high quality wave, successfully.
Did anyone ride waves with anything bigger?
Which brands will be suitable (ozone reo isn't eveliable bigger then 12m)
I don't reckon flying a kite bigger than 12m, in the waves, would be any fun at all.
You live in WA, be patient and wait for the wind. lol.

Have got a Fury light 15m on order should be in in the next few weeks and am hangin out to try it in the surf, its the smallest of the Light series but if its anything like the 11m it should have a serious low end, will let u know if it was worth getting.
the magic word was 'off'
any kite will work with a bit of 'off'
i'd sell my spare kidney for a bit of 'off'
My view is if you need something bigger than a 12m in the waves and you are under 100kgs, then be prepared to replace your kite a few times a season, when you drop it in light winds, any kite is harder to launch. Even the Hellfish.
1 or 2 waves hitting the kite with no relaunch = ripped kite or snapped lines and line entaglement. Unless your lucky.
My largest kite is a 10m, and if i cant use it in the surf, then i just go for a surf or go home.
17 meters Griffin Argonaut 2012. Rode it last long weekend in Tuross Head NSW in probably 14 -17 knots. Crashed it twice, but got it up again. Also didn't inflate it more than 6 psi, cause in case it gets washing machine in the waves the bladder has heaps of pressure left to absorb.
Although after 1 hour the wind picked up like crazy and I had to pull out my 10 meters Rally and freeze the hell :)
Not this kite. It's pretty fast. I couldn't believe it until I actually tried it myself. I am really happy with it and don't feel overpowered, unless is over 18-20 knots.
but why fly a 17m when a smaller kite,12m, can get you powered enough?
or is the low end of the 17m not that good?
i've got a 13m edge and a 15m flysurfer speed 3 i use in the waves.
Tbh they are both pretty insanely bad in the waves. the speed is worst and the edge only marginally better. They don't kite going down wind down the line. but going upwind riding the wave is all on and very nice glides off the wave lips on teh wway out.
Its one of the new 2012 Peter Lynn inflatable lightwind specific kites, have ridden the 9 and 11 fury quite a few times and they are real light and agile in the surf with a huge low end so am keen to try the 15 they also do a 17 and 19in the light series but prob overkill for around here ,i'm only interested in a 9-12 knot surf kite so hope it fits the bill.
I designed a light wind specific wave kite, only had it for a few weeks, only 1 in Australia, Is a lot if fun from 8+ knots on a smaller 5ft3 surfboard 87kg rider, and is doable in less winds with larger boards or longer lines.
It feels light on the bar and light to turn, it drifts nicely, its fast enough and depowers enough to enjoy the wave without pulling you off.
Below video shot in about 6-7 knots, medium 53 cm bar
Kite was on the medium turning setting. Lines were 25m
Kite is designed for 25m lines for surf with a normal medium bar,
Sorry for the sucky video, the 17m has only been in Australia for a few weeks and I have been busy flying it, not filming it. Video was shot just to show the turning speed. 3 strut light 17m not high aspect designed to turn, drift, depower and feel light and fast and go upwind and relaunch easily in light winds.
Looks good chris will have to get one on my next order
Had the 14TRX out on sat in 9-12 on 24m went well, surf was o/head pity wind was so light but managed to keep up with a 17 zeph.
Would of been a majic session had it of been a couple more knots,17 TRX would of rocked
Because I don't want to spend the money on another kite, but I also want to be on the water when I have only 8 knots. So the answer would be to cover as much wind as possible with a 10 and with a 17
hahahah, yeah it feels like a 12m because its light on the bar and turning, that gets you going in 8 knots and is fun in 8 knots.
Anyone sick of griffin pimping their rubbish everywhere? while i appreciate the effort theyre putting in to getting their product out there....where do you draw the line?
Sorry, I am replying to posts and questions. People are asking for genuine info, or making flaming comments.
The topic was about wave riding with large than a 12m.
A 17m wave friendly kite sounded relevant.
I am not sure if there are any large wave friendy branded kites out there, most large kites are high aspect designs for racing, not good for turning drift or waves.
how about some other brands shops or team riders post something about there light wind wave kites, it would be good to hear from some other brands.
Apologies for all the griffin posts, I promise that i am not asking riders to pimp and spam the forum. This is not part of any marketing hype campaign. no one likes spammers, other brands have done this and it just makes people dislike them. I think the replies have been legit and honest replies to relevant questions.
^^^^Agreed, how many threads have they posted the 17m vid in??
Makes you wonder why they feel so desperate and pimp so hard ???
If they are that good, surely they wouldnt need the bs?
Feel sorry for the newbies that dont realise the bs hype that goes on in the "reveiw" forum,,,,,, maybe thats there market? and ebay with all their last years range
