Two really good sliders down there as well, but tide too low to use them. Well made, but who put them up?
Went down there last saturday, had an amazing day. 20 - 25 knots all day just at the change of the tide. Was pretty shallow in some spots, as one picture shows, dont try anything too hard in the shallows, there are many shells. by the end of the day Tom needed three stitches and i also visted emergency just to make sure there was nothing in there.
Its an awesome spot, just watch out for the wind shadow if you get too close to the dunes, and keep clear of fisherman, which there can be plenty of. Oh and the currents a ripper.
All in all about a 2 hour drive from largs, but well worth it with amazing flat water conditions.

That whole area is tidal - no fresh water flows out of there any more (thanks NSW & Vic).
On a high tide the shelly sandbars are under water. High tides down there are completely out of sync with Outer Harbor - check Victor Harbor tides.
The sliders are mine cheers, live in goolwa so its my local spot, top spot be even better without the razor sharp shells 
Thanks mate! I have never seen one up close before. Probaly a dumb question, but do you have to remove your board fins before using? Have been kiting in the surf at Daystreet on and off this last week, but forecast looks good for Murray mouth today (Sat).
yeah mate generally a good idea to take the fins off your board so they dont catch, i wont be down there today but be down there whenever theres wind next week
Hey I was thinking of checking out kiting down at the mouth, it looks great, esp the flat water. Do you go off of Hindmarsh Island (sugars road) or do you use a 4wd and go from the other side (4wd along tne beach) ??????? Whats the best winbd direction to go down there as well???

We always go from the Hindmarsh Island side, as it's a sealed road and a 50m walk to setup area.I always wear booties because of the shallow water and sharp things lurking in the sandy bottom. The two sliders are to the south of the setup area, in the main lagoon. If you want to hit the surf, just sail upwind, or drive along beach from Goolwa. Here's some pics of a recent session down there. The wind at the Hindmarsh island weather station is always about 2-5 kts stronger than the mouth. Due south is the best direction, as it blows that way most days over summer, as it is the prevailing seabreeze. I live near Marino, and the mouth is about 80kms drive from my house, so is well worth the effort!
Thanks for the info. It seems preety easy to get there and looks like a great spot. Hopefully it will be windy enough this weekend so I can check it out. Might see you there.

Higher up the river (Waikerie-Renmark) the best spot is Lake Bonney in Barmera. Awesome and safe flat water riding when there is wind.
I have tried a few spots on the actual river that looked good from the shore but found huge holes and had to swim back!
Too many cliffs along river which block wind.
