Heading to Gladstone for the weekend in a fortnight and am just searching for a few tips on where to kite and any local advice to make the stay more enjoyable.
There isn't anywhere decent to go in Gladstone itself. But Tannum 20-30 mins south of Gstone is the best place. Most of the guys up there seem to go out from the southern end of Tannum Sands main beach near the creek mouth of Wild Cattle Creek. There is a flagged swimming beach area not far north of that to avoid. Also I've never kited there but grew up swimming there and I reckon Canoe Point at Tannum Sands would be a good area too.
I would not go in the water ! The fish up there die , they come out all red .

heaps of articles on it and government site says all has returned to normal [I don't believe that]
Enter at your own risk imo.
The price of progress dredging up years of bauxite, cobalt, coal and god knows what other sediment that has blown off the docks and into the channel.. It's not a surprise the three eyed fish are showing up. Bowen's turn next, all that awesome reef just 10 miles off shore will be brown as a freshly baked turd. But yeah, agree with dafunk, no way I'd go near that ****.
Don't listen to the sooky-la-la naysayers who only kite in bottled spring water that has been thrice filtered through the hair of virgins Gladstone is fine to kite/swim etc. Per RedclffRoss's recommendations......Tannum Sands is good from a SSE to N in all tides, Canoe Point is great from an ESE to N from over 1/2 tide. There are often people walking along both beaches so just be careful with your launch/land.......the crew there is always ready to lend a hand for both. Enjoy.....
