Just found out (today 12-2) that the southern side of the East Point spit is the perfect location to kite the Northerly
may be the perfect location to kite .
tide half out to half in
Gunna amend that with a safety warning to watch the tide when it turns
Especially if you are parked at east pt!
Hey Rails,
Coming up to Mackay and wondering where and what time of day is best to Kitesurf up there...
For the Northerlies - which don't blow that often
Shoal Point - any tide except really high - good lagoon up the NW end and some waves
The sand spit of the south end of east pt, about 2 hours from low need 4wd and decent upwind skills to get back - never seen anyone else there
The south end of blacks beach - tide from half to low
Saw someone kiting at the Surf Club on Harbour beach yesterday on but reckon it would've been gusty
For the SE which is the usual anywhere between Town beach and Illawong is the go - gets choppy at high tide and a fair walk out/back at low tide
Worth the walk though because you get about 5k of shallow flat water
If I can choose I hit town beach about 2-3 hours either side of high
If you don't like walking you can park at East Pt and kite the river out at low tide
Flying RPMs so be sure and say hi
Thanks mate - I will look out for you.. I have a Pivot 2015 I just got . . amazing...
Need to wear rashies or do anything to protect against the box or the irakanji? Or pretty unlikely event kite boarding?
