Taking the family to Sydney for a week then to Cairns for a week in December. As I am planning this trip, I hope you mates can give me some advise on some spots.
The family in tow, so I need to ensure they are happy on the beach (no stingers or crocs) while I feed my addition.
In return for some advice, here is an image from Hood River where the swell was, as usual, high rolling.
I would absolutely LOOOVEEE to kite in massive swells like that. What boost!!
December is the wet season up here in the tropics (Cairns and beyond especially), and there is the potential for cyclones too.
BUT in between, the winds are pumping and even the swells are rising and are surfable on some point breaks. But to be ready for a kite, I would bring your smallest and your biggest kite to cover the possible wind range of 10 to 30knots.
Port Douglas and 4 mile beach is croc safe and stinger safe (within the swimming nets only). You *WILL* need to bring (you can buy them here) a stinger suit, which is a lycra full body "wet suit" to cover you in case of stingers, especially for the kids. Oh and lots and lots of mozzie repellent.

Figured out the plans. 1 week in Sydney (downtown) and one week on the Sunshine Coast in late December. Bringing my 14m North Fuse that has a wide wind range.
unless youre a big guy, 14m might be too big in December. Typical summer pattern here is for a good seabreeze in the afternoon - most will be on 11/12s, or even 9s on a good day. Sunny coast has good waves too, so maybe surfboard and smaller kite?

8.5 points for effort but this is not how you use the word mates.
Try Caloundra for a family friendly spot that's good for kiting. Best accommodation is Aspect or Rumba if you need all the frills for the wife and kids.
Alternative that works for families is Seabourn apartments. All within 100m of beach.

For the Sunny Coast, Mooloolaba would be a great spot for the family. It,s not the greatest spot to kite but it's close to Cotton tree (kiteable in most wind directions). Caloundra is a great spot but doesn't pick up the northerly wind so a bit limited IMO. Better still stay at Cotton Tree but accommodation is not as good as you will find at Mooloolaba.

Mahalo for the tips. The trip now is booked- a week in Sydney late December (hope to see some of you North of Manly and a week in Noosa. Assuming the Noosa mouth is where it is at.
The Pacific Northwest is still a blowin. We were very luck this year.
