Isnt one of the skools doing a mass trip down there this Thursday?
If it's the one I think it is, ... you can expect Rosebud to be a 'No Kite Zone' on Friday :-S
I'm in for rosebud this Thursday, wind, sun and high tide in the afternoon so no need to get there super early. Work can get ****
Sadly I have to work all week =/, Weekends looking good though! When ever I venture down to Rosebud the wind drops off so I'm sticking to Brighton.

Same here... bigish investment... minimal/no return. If it were not for the cafe across the road...things could get ugly.
To much work on to chuck a sicky this week, so i'll be settling for an early Saturday morning session.

remember rosie is about 5k less than the south channel, so dont bother unless its well over 20k. but well worth the return: flat water and waves, wind less gusty, lot more space. failing that go for a surf. brighton is so boring going up and down might as well be a poley.
At 8:00 am was Ok then at 10:00 am the wind dropped. Most of day was light . At 4 pm the wind finally arrived. I was at Ryan with 2 other kite surfers until 4 pm when 5 kite surfer showed up. Don't how many at car park 12. Cheers
I don't know what to make of the relationship between S Channel and Rosebud wind anymore. I arrived yesterday just as the wind dropped, as per forecast (my van broke down a couple of Ks out of town...), and expected it to be over for the day based on the Willyweather forecast. To my delight I found there was plenty of wind after around 12.30 and kited all arvo. Even had to downsize at 4pm.
Other days I turn up for a forecast >20kts and nothing happens at all.
If it was just the strength forecast at S Channel that was off I could understand, but the patterns seem to be completely different too.
Any meteorologists out there able to help?
Norther lies have been off at rosebud for the past couple of years. They used to be consistent but now you can't trusts any northerly forecast unless it's saying 30 knots
like it was on Thursday is it common to get more wind in the north of the bay followed by more wind in the south later? In other words can we use the beacon as a guide before making the drive down?.
nice work dean what was the harness
Hey mate, it's a wizmount www.wizmount.com/products/cu2pack/ lots of different angles, PKB and SHQ stock them or they did. Keen to get it in the surf for a few shots
Hello, Highza,
For the Rye area, you need to look at South Channel Island, http://www.baywx.com.au/schan.html, then, at the bottom of the page in blue, the Blairgowrie Observations: www.bys.asn.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=70&Itemid=91. You might also look at the Rye Weather Obs and Cams www.ryeweather.com.au/, but I find this turns on and off too late in the morning for me.
Again, at the bottom of the page, you have the Rye cam www.triggerbrothers.com.au/w/index.php?option=com_webcam&Itemid=183 and on this page, you can use the McCrae Beach cam (ideal for conditions at Rosebud).
I'll post another link tonight when I get home....it's worth waiting for
Highza,
Try this: www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml?location=vic&tz=AEDT
Home in on Melbourne, then use the sliders to get the forecast every few hours.
Hope this helps.
