If you find yourself making the trip up North to escape winter this year we are all over downwinders in the Gulf. Don't leave your kites behind, whilst it not classic postcard Ningaloo conditions its still kiting, we even have a few Top Secret flat water spots :-) If your in town get in touch www.facebook.com/exmouthkitecentre
Im not going to lie and say they are all time, we are pretty spoilt over summer but we can have it pretty good in winter. Because of the Geography of the peninsular we can kite in the Easterlies opening up the Gulf. On the right tide and wind direction we get some flat water.
My main reason for posting was that we get so many crew up here on holidays over winter who wished they had brought their gear up that I thought Id give a heads up.
Generally speaking Its on in the morning, the wind ramps up as the sun comes up and dies off around midday when it heats up.
If its just a kiting trip your after save it until September but if you are coming anyway then pack a kite for sure.
Hi tgcp,
heading up on Friday for a weeks fishing was gonna bring my gear but what size kite's ? Going by sea breeze it would be 10-12m for me at 95kg, but if it's a bit frontal and gusting I would probably wanna bring 8-10m. Do you have any suggestions? cheers J
more like 12 to 17m I would say. Unless you get out when the wind peaks you may be fine on a 10m for about half hour.

Your tackle box would have every size diving minnow, adopt the same strategy with your kites and you'll be fine
Id Be going with the 10 and 12. Be sure to give me a text If your chasing a session (really bad phone reception 50%of the day, Surfing or kiting the other 50) :-)
Thanks guys, got the 10 n 12 and will throw the 15 in just in case. think I'll get a session or two in, just not sure if it's kiting fishing or drinking. If all goes to plan its a hatrick!
Heading up to Exmouth Monday the 11th anyone going to be around & up for session?
Always buddy, give us a shout when you are up here..Hopefully we get more days like today and less like the last few weeks
Hey TGCP - my wife just moved up to Exmouth for 6 months to do a dolphin research job. I'll be flying up probably at least monthly for long weekends of surfing and kiting, and maybe spend some time with wife . . . . . Be good to hook up with a few locals when I'm up there.
First trip up scheduled for 4th to 8th June.
Will have wheels, boards, kites and my froth on . . . hopefully meet up then.
Cheers. Dan.
Sure Danno just give us a shout when your up here, or a PM a day before if you want to know w hat the conditions will be like for the weekend. Should have some solid swell by then
Seems like half of Perth has just shown up today for the start of the school holidays. If you're in town and packed a kite for the trip you made a wise choice, see you out there as of Wednesday
Heading up Thursday morning for a week. 9m and unstrapped surfboard - suggestions for locations for kiting the SE winds?
Cheers.
Dan.
Hey Dan, In a SE wind we normally go from Town Beach, although the whole Gulf is pretty much fair game. It hasn't got much to offer in the way of waves. If the wind gets really strong there is sometimes desperation wave riding available :-) Ive just set up a group for kiting up here on Facebook for kiters to arrange sessions, downwinders, beers etc feel free to join in.

I guess it was of great importance to mention that the surfboard has no straps. ^
lol.

Maybe not but I read into it that he was chasing waves only, thats what strapless kitesurfing is all about right? I mean if I wanted to do jumps and spins Id stick to one of those old school two way boards with straps

Describing the gear as an 'unstrapped' surfboard' .... rather than just saying 'surfboard' ,,,
comes across as a bit pompous to me.
Just saying.
lol.
Aye wave-slave - i normally ride a cut-down surfboard with one strap in perth, so was just thoughtlessly typing away about what gear I'd already left up in Exmouth and remembered all I had was my normal surfing short board and wouldn't be bringing up my strapped surfboard. Just ended up typed out that way . . . No pompesness or other inuendo intended mate . . . .
