I'm thinking about spending 1-2 weeks in early December somewhere on the west coast (I heard Geraldton was nice?). Does anyone have any information about kitecamps that provide all of the gear for you on the west coast? I tried to google it, but unfortunately didn't find anything. It's going to take me about 30 hours of flights to get to Perth, so I really don't want to have to drag all of my gear along with me... thanks in advance!

Skip Gero, and drive the extra to Exmouth. Have a chat with Tom at Exmouth surf centre. You'll be heaps happier you did when you are driving back through after 14 days in paradise.

You'd be daft to skip most of our coastline for one spot, sure Exmouth is a spectacular spot but you'll be spewing all the way if you don't/didn't have a kite, 2 kites do me all summer, you'll req little clothing due to temperature both on and off water, I'll have rental equipment running next season from my cafe at dongara if needed, then Exmouth surf centre can equip you when north

You've over 1000 klm of this

You excited yet

Well I travelled 30 hours to Gero some 30 years ago and am still here. And loving it.

Thanks for the advice, it looks as though I might have to bring my equipment afterall. It will be me (80kg) and my wife (50kg), both kiting, but probably only one of us in the water at a time. Think we could get away with just bringing a 6m and 9m, or should we bring 6, 9, and 12m?

Mick is half right with what he is saying, there are some magic place between but they are great distances and there are no hire places. Those photos Mick posted above are not of Geraldton but Sharks Bay,.. 9 hours form the nearest kite hire place. I have attached photos from google of both Geraldton and Exmouth,.. you decide.

Geraldton..

Exmouth...

Gazuki is the second bloke on the left, nice tuck under correct on a couple of photos, 1st one is my local, second is top secret, others are shark bay

If you need more info on Exmouth drop me an email @ tom@exmouthsurfcentre.com.au we do extended hire rates on gear and can also arrange drop off points in Perth should you want to start up here and head South, be warned though most people end up never heading south

My two cent's worth. Live in Perth, kited all the way between here and Exmouth, and there are some great spots along the way. Shark bay, Gnaraloo, so many to choose from, and all amazing.

BUt if I was travelling 30 hours to get here, and only here for a few weeks, I'd want to minimise the travel time once I arrived.

I'd be landing in exmouth and staying put. It has everything, and if the winds not blowing the other water activities are impossible to beat.

TBH though, you can't go wrong either way. It's an amazing coastline all the way.

I would probably land in Perth rent a 4wd drive to Lancelin stay at the lodge for a few days then on the least windy day leave head to Cauncys cafe in gero kip in the big 4 caravan park. Kite a few days. Then drive to Exmouth kite then the day before leaving stock up on red bull and drive Drive back drop off the kite gear and rented 4wd get on the plane have a beer and a massive kip remembering the good times you had !!!

Personally though anywhere on the saw that time of year I's firing !!! Message us if you thinking of heading south instead of north I know of a place called borbs spot H. Will show you the best flat water in WA!!

Gero has much more affordable accommodation. Easy to find low cost airbnb and the Corronation Beach (20km north of Gero centre) is a magic spot. Have not been to Exmouth but heard from many that it is great.

You people are mad.

Geraldton has it all, hire gear plus the setup on the beach and civilisation. If you trash a kite or snap a board in Exmouth what are your options?
At least in gero you can get stuff fixed, borrow gear or its a daytrip to perth to pick up stuff.

Exmouth and G'loo etc are what u do at the start of a 3mth trip and work your way south. If you only have 2 weeks you do Gero and that's it ....otherwise its 4 days out of 14 travelling!!!

Then you come and see us at Exmouth Surf Centre on last trip we had to Gero there were no shops left??????? Is there now an option to rent gear???? Not sure what you call civilisation but we do alright up here and some might say our locals are a tad more civilised than in Gero... Think you might be overdue a trip North mate, times are changing

Drove from Tassie last year for Nov Dec and Loved it in Gero.
Out of 5 weeks there was 1 period of 4 days we didn't do anything.

The time spent travelling between spots is next level from anything else and you can spend days heading in one direction on a good highway with fast moving traffic (there is none)

Gero - Corronations is awesome and am looking to go back if I can get the time any december. The caravan park is basic and cheap (toilet and site only supplied)
We stayed there a few nights but mostly the gero sunset caravan park in swags, gave us showers and shops.

There is no real shop in Gero for poleys or teabaggers but Perth is "just down the road"

Shorts Tshirts and thongs everywhere, had shoes and 1 pair of trousers to go out at night.

Maybe next time I'll fly to exmouth and spend a week or 2 there.
Gnarloo - seems impressive - I pole'd there would like to try kiting next time
You wont need your 12m - I had a 10 and a 12 but I way over 130 Kg. You can both be out on the 10 and the 6 so bring 2 boards

In short -- Coronations is the best place I have found so far for kiting.
Flat water inside and a very deep reef out the back.
No risk of touching the reef and 200m to get settled before getting in the surf. A constant see breeze that starts everyday around lunch and goes through till dark.
The beach down wind means the cross and slightly onshore breeze will always bring you and gear into the beach (eventually)

There is a shop/shipping container at corros that starts up in summer to provide lessons/rental/sales, not sure of the details when he's open etc

I reckon the road trip is the way to go, 2 weeks is plenty of time to go Perth - Exmouth, and then a day or two return. Perth, Lancelin, Cervantes, Green Head, Dongara, Gero/Coronation, Kalbarri, Exmouth. At that time of year, the sea breeze will be in - drive in the morning for a few hours, set up camp, kite, stay a night or two, rinse & repeat.

If you're flying 30hrs to get here, might as well see as much of the place as possible.

See this video for inspiration -

To answer the original question - bring your gear (6 & 9), or else another hire option is Dave at KiteBase here in Perth if you were going to go up and back.

Hi all,
It seems like most of you are trying to promote your small business along the coast of WA instead of providing some interesting information to these travellers. I don't think that any of these personal opinions are objectives and will invite tourists to WA, Are you really prepared to welcome riders from the 4 corners of the world?
Geraldton is the only town north of Perth where you will find equipment.
KiteWest is the only school on the beach in Western Australia, Located on the magic spot of Coronation Beach.
Coronation beach is one of the top 10 spots on the planet! think twice and get the facts rights!! Flat water and wave riding make spot your Australian wind Mecca

KiteWest offer rentals equipment, repairs, lessons, clinics.

And your not trying to self promote.pretty much sounds like an advert to me
Corro is fun but to claim a top ten spot on the planet is a big claim. Wondering where else you have kited to be putting it in the top ten.

jesus Kitewest where did that glory hole post come from.... ??

I'm in pin pullers camp. Drive when there is no wind....kite when there is wind. Hop scotch and pop up the coast. See where you end up ... follow the wind and it's forecast.

And yeh visit coronations whilst you are there even though that fella sounds like a right douche. It is a great spot....

but Exmouth is better by a country mile... truly special coastline and no stupid rules where pole dancers and kiters can sai either (****en weird that place ).
