hey looking for a kite to start out on just wondering if anyone know what the feed the rat 5.5 is like or if anyone has a decent depowerable kite as i wana have a crack at this landboarding madoobee thingy any help greatly appreciated

Well I learn something new everyday, I didn't even realise there was a brand called FTR (Feed the Rat) Ill leave comment on the kites alone as I know nothing about them at all, but they could do with a name change I can't say for most kiters that Feed the Rat as a name is kite related to anything.

Saying that they are cheap, and from the photo I saw they look ok. I have no idea where to get them for eg (a demo) before you buy.

$500 isn't much money to spend on a new kite unless you are buying a second hand kite.

A. If you haven't flown before buy yourself a trainer kite and get used to flying around the 2 meter mark before trying to combine it with a landboard, combining the two straight away is most likely to put you off. Get your flying skills up to speed first, then jump on something.

B. If you have flown before and have some flying skills, possibly something around the $600-$700 mark will get you a 4-6 meter fixed bridal. for $500 your not going to break into the depower market at all.

C. If you are going to buy a kite, buy something for tomorrow meaning...... buy somethign that you will grow into kiting is something that you will most likely make a huge advance in skills in a shorter time which means buying something that will suit you today, will not in a few months time. So perhaps buying a trainer for a couple of hundred dollars (most kite shops if you buy it from will trade it back in on something bigger these days) and then get yourself a kite that will have a life span for you.

D. Start on a beach with soft sand is always preferable. Stay away from inland flying if you can its too gusty and unpredictable. Remember these kites have serious pull even in the small sizes.
