CQBC will be hosting the 2012 Cape Hillsborough Regatta Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th November 2012.
Friday will be registration and practice day. Monday will be a social day.
The tides for this event are a bit later than normal so the Saturday night meal will a bit later and Sunday's presentation will be similarly later.
Racing is expected to be finished by 6.00pm on Sunday and presentation will be held soon after when the results are tallied.
Competitors will need to arrange accommodation, flights and transport to suit the later finishing times.
The event will be run similarly to our previous Regattas and fun competition is the main objective.

Cape Hillsborough Resort has caravan, camp sites and cabins available and can be contacted at: capehillsboroughresort.com.au/
Let them know you are part of the blokart group to secure a spot otherwise you may be told the resort is booked.

Cape Hillsborough Resort already has 22 site and cabin bookings for the Regatta.
Thanks to those who have jumped in to secure their prefererred accommodation.

If you haven't thought about it yet, there are still some cabins and rooms left and plenty of camping sites.
*Remember to mention that you are part of the Blokart event to book units / sites held aside for the club.

The new owners, Ben and Renae, are now settled into Cape Hillsborough Nature Resort.
They can now take deposits from those already booked before the change of ownership.
There are still some cabins and rooms available, but you do need to mention the Blokarts to book these, otherwise there are still plenty of sites for camping.
Please contact the resort on 07 4959 0152 to arrange bookings and payment.

I have a resort plan with all current bookings for the regatta which may help with some enquiries.

By the confirmed bookings at the resort we have about 39 racers,
but typically forms are slow to happen.
Early entry doesn't finish until this Saturday 27th October,
so there's still time for racers to take advantage of the discount.

See you in a few weeks.

Blokarters challenged by the elements
November 10-11th 2012
The varied wind conditions challenged the skills of the 46 entrants in the fourth annual Central Queensland Blokart Club's Cape Hillsborough regatta on the weekend.
Saturday saw sailors opting for 5.5m2 sails in the very light conditions which suited the lightweight sailors. Sunday morning found racers dealing with a much fresher wind which developed into strong and gusty sailing conditions forcing sail choices down to 4m2 and 3m2 sails. The middleweights and heavyweights relished the challenging conditions and all classes provided exciting and close racing.
Family teams once again faired well in the trophy presentation. First time competitor Wendy Dempster faired well in her class against some seasoned sailors but the highlight for their family was husband Brendan receiving 1st place in Middleweight Production with son Connor achieving 2nd in lightweight production.
Yeppoon sailors Colin & Daryl Skinner both received 2nd place in their respective divisions of Heavyweight Production and Heavyweight Performance. Darren Bianchi achieved another 1st in heavyweight performance with son Matthew taking out 3rd in Middleweight preformance with youngest son Lachlan battling in the hotly contested lightweight performance division to finish just outside the trophies in 4th place. Eric Smith's entry into the regatta and 3rd place in Heavyweight Production saw the family once again having three generations receiving trophies, along side son Gary with a 1st in Middleweight Performance, grandson Blake receiving 2nd in Lightweight Performance and granddaughter Sydney achieving a 1st in Lightweight Production.
All place getters are as listed.

Division trophy achievers-

Lightweight Production- 1st Sydney Smith-Jung ( Mackay), 2nd Connor Dempster (Mackay), 3rd Luke Paterson (Airlie Beach),
Middleweight Production- 1st Brendan Dempster(Mackay), 2nd Judy Cox (Brisbane), 3rd Steve Bundred (Yeppoon)
Heavyweight Production- 1st Rodd Jackson ( Sydney), 2nd Colin Skinner (Yeppoon), 3rd Eric Smith (Mackay)

Lightweight Performance- 1st Barak Dekel (Mackay), 2nd Blake Smith-Jung (Mackay), 3rd Ian Musker (Yeppoon)
Middleweight Performance- 1st Gary Smith (Mackay), 2nd Daryl Skinner (Rockhampton), 3rd Matthew Bianchi (Mackay)
Heavyweight Performance- 1st Darren Bianchi (Mackay), 2nd Dave Blundell (Mackay), 3rd Gavin Statham (Mackay)

A huge thanks to all the organisers for once again an fantastic event. Even when there was no wind the amazing scenery and friendship of fellow karters certainly helped pass the time.

At least I finally got one of the elusive Regatta trophies this time and we will certainly be back again next year as definately worth the trip from Brisbane.

Once again a big thanks to everyone for making it such a great weekend.
