Some of you may be interested in a downhaul setup I have been using on my mini lately
It works well has 20 to 1 mechanical advantage (10 to 1 x2) and best of all is very cheap ( around 5 dollars from bunnies)
The tack line is taken from the mast step up one side of the boom through the tack eye on the sail (not shown)down the other side of the boom and to the ratchet The block shown carries the main sheet and gives a Crockett style purchase also
I removed the webbing supplied with the ratchet and sewed on a shackle to the bottom using a short piece of webbing
Brilliant Hiko!!! Your a genius.
I had tried it with the webbing still installed and the roll built up into a diameter that just jammed.
Thanks.
