Started a detune for AUS230, Stripped the yacht this morning. (first tried just changing axles but was not happy with the look) Then made a new backbone to take wheel barrow wheels. Whole job up to date took 4 hours.
By changing only the backbone the conversion can be changed back to 26"wheels in about 20 minutes.
Remove seat 3 bolts
Remove front end 3 bolts
Remove axle loosen 6 screws
change wheels
49-1/2"on the class5 and 45"on the mini.(to the centre of the mast post)
50"on your mini should be fine especially with an adjustable mast which will enable to balance the yacht by moving it forward or back.
Hi Vic, may I ask the reasons for the detuning? Also does the new spine have different angle specs to accommodate the 8" wheels?
Mick.
The back of the spine(y section) is at a lower angle so that the rest of the yacht is the same specs as before (everything in front of the y is identical to my 26"frame).
Reason why? I have never raced a yacht with wheel barrow wheels and want to see what the difference is (for same yacht in all ways except for the wheels) if that makes sense.
I did not want to make a completely new yacht as that would not give me the result that I am looking for.
I will be interested in your conclusions Vic
We have believed the difference is quite a lot but maybe not so much in reality
Cheers Hiko
I think clem was surprised a bit in how the club88 yachts went at lake walyungup.
Finished the frame now ready to paint
For the comp at lefroy I will have the 26"(did not send some wheels up there for nothing. Bring on the big wheel comp.
Looks better with the 26" of course - all you need to do now is put a smaller front wheel on and shorten it to fit into the 5.6 and you will have a very rapid International Miniyacht 5.6 yacht ! Look forward to your comments when you have sailed the new set up.
