seat weighed in at 11 kgs. (not sure wot other class 5 seats weigh).

For comparison this was 32kg with primer.

keep in mind a class 5 has a minimum weight of 50kg fully rigged,so skimping on weight is often not worth the effort, better to chase the strength. my own 5 came in at 53kg,without me stressing about trying to save. on some surfaces a slightly heavier yacht will handle better

But it's about where you put the weight.

The skiff in the picture I built has a minimum weight of 50kg also. But it is beneficial to have much lighter boats and bring the hull up to weight. Centralizing the weight is the most favored option, but some boats ( i14's ) have used movable ballast systems.

Obviously Class 5 landyachts are a very different beasts to skiffs but the same principal applies. Center of Lateral Resistance, Center of Effort, Center of Balance etc, etc... A lighter than minimum yacht allows you to put the weight in the best place.

Sorry Ron, just having a quick go at you I think it stemed from my dislike for textesque language (eg: lol, wtf, pita, etc).

Lachy,
It is a thing about listening to the way people speak and pronounce words. It seems to me Australians say "Stuff the rules of language and pronounce names and words they way they are happy with them. Does anyone stop and think of what the other bloke hears. There are a few that have taken a pot shot at me for stuff I say that may offend the Foreign ear. OK! So-be-it but Do not be too quick to Judge me for I have heard Emigrants ask where to find "The BUKED Bins, Please" (Note Please) Buggered Bins??? What the hell is he talking about?? Oh! Baked Beans.. What has he heard from us?? Quite often Good Stuff comes across as Get Stuffed. Good on you = Goodonya (Russian?) I like to push that right back at people..
Just a bad habit which I have developed and tends to offend the Patriot.. Get over it. I lost patriotism 6 months after I joined the Army and learned about the most dangerous clowns, I found that they were not the so called enemy.. I also found that the so called enemy was doing exactly the same thing I was doing. As he was told.

Forgive me Ron if I've offended, I was just having a little joke (at your expense ) to add a bit of colour to the discussion. I too agree with what you have said.

Better get back to the topic....waiting, waiting, waiting for more info/pictures

OK! So no offense taken, just explaining myself.. Looking at the quality of ADl's workmanship I would be happy to classify him as Anal Retentive along with our Northern Brothers I just though he might get offended over the term and so I offered to buy his Seat Capsule. Nice Job ADl.
Ron
PS; I have a thing for CF and think it would be a pity to see this unit painted over.

if you are leaving the carbon without paint make sure you clear coat it with something like UltraVar 2000 Varnish. As epoxy doesn't like the sun very much.

sail is a windward sail so shouldnt be to short. same sail as clem.

my sail is the same (windward) I just add a extension to the top to get the right length (I have 2 sails that vary in length, the R@J is slightly longer so it requires an extension).
Cheers

I am really jealous. No; Really really. That is one mighty fine piece of gear and that sail looks like 1000000mph. Bloody nice machine.

dont have any photos yet. have been for 1 sail and seems to even
faster. It was only 5-6 knots and top speed of 51 km/hr.
I am also making another two of these class 5's. My brother has put his
order in. He has a blowkart and does want to get back in it. after sailing
my carbon 5.
