I was warned about the addictive nature of landyachts.I would like to build a tandem so Mrs Tryhard and other worthy guests can accompany me on my voyages.Searching the web,Manta and Windreamer offer tandem machines. Naturally I would prefer to build my own.Does anyone have advice or recommendations?
what kind of weight for th 2.
a min sandem gets a bit crowded, but if you go up to class 5 size its quite do'able. keep it simple and light and try and use the same parts as a regular 5
Onya "sn".
and on "landyacht"'s advise, I fitted a mudguard (with the inside totally enclosed to the tandem) to keep little hands away from that wheel.
Not a great photo but you can get the idea of the 25mm x25mm x1.6mm galv RHS, tandem chassis.
It attaches to the front of the yacht by the mast step with a flat plate 3mm thick with 2x 8mm bolts about 50mm apart. So 3 bolts (2 at the front and the left hand axle retaining bolt) removed and it's back to a standard yacht in a few minutes. It slides into the standard 35mmx 35mmx2mm rear frame of the mini.
I've had a 108kg passenger in it.
Me, while I'm teaching kids to sail.
Remove the wheel and put it back onto it's standard axle and your sailing again by yourself.
The total weight 2 up would be in the range 140-150 kg.I wonder if the ski axles will work but in a T formation rather than the swept back Y.
After consulting Clem the Clever, my tandem build will be a slightly modified version of Skiwi. The wheel base will be stretched out to 1800 and the v section for the skis will be at 20 degrees .I plan to redeploy the front wheel assembly and the rear wheels, the mast ,boom and sail,so the construction will be the spine, mast step, pedals and seat.I plan to make the seats the same way as the Skiwi build, sitting on a ply base about 900mm wide.Clem advises me to instal gussets to beef up the spine/v section assembly.I will probably instal one aft of the mast step with a hole at the top to use for a down haul securing point.I have the remaining section of 48mm pipe from the Skiwi build so I can get started
I marked out the dimensions on my trusty external whiteboard so I could get a feel for the project
Here are some pics of my mock up.The section of pipe is a tad too short
The White outline is the possible shape for the deck which is 900mm wide and 1350 long.
