I'm pleased to announce the formation of the North East Windsport Club, formally known as Mokoan Yacht Club.

With the decommisioning of Lake Mokoan and the realisation of the clubs major asset, the club house, Mokoan YC has been renamed NEW and is relocating to a site at the Wangaratta Airport, to be known as the NEW HQ.

As a true Windsport club, we will be continuing our involvement with sailing but we are encouraging the development of all forms of Windsports at NEW. Our initial foray is with Blokarts, but we are keen to see various forms of Windsports catered for at NEW.

The NEW HQ is still in its early development stage, but we do have some facilities on the site [Amenity Block] and a club house will be following soon. Watch for further developments. [and pictures.]

Congratulations boys and girls. I thought it was a bit rough draining your lake but you are sure to have a ton of fun with the blokarts.

Congratulations on getting this far. Let us know when you are ready for a race weekend and we can organize a date for the Melbourne crew to come up for a blast.

The BOM Forcast Explorer for Saturday Arvo for Wangaratta at 13:00 has wind between 30-50km [15kn-25kn]. It also predicts up to 3mm between 13:00 and 16:00. Temp - 18. With appropriate wet weather gear it could be a hoot.!!!!!

We can use the facilities at the NEW HQ if we want to keep out of the weather, have a cuppa or maybe a shower if we get cold/wet. I can bring along a folding table and we could bring along our own chairs, drinks, hot pies etc. I can bring along a gas stove to boil up some dimmies/soup if there's interest in that as well.
I'm keen. Anybody else willing to give it a go?

Good to see its usable for you guys, have you found a fleet yet?

G'day Lachlan,

We've still got a bit to do onsite. We've a grassed area that ideal for a short course, but we can't get onto it because of the wet [Damm, I didn't think I complain about that]. We've got some graveled roads on site and access to a sealed carpark adjacent to our HQ. Today methinks its going to be the carpark!!!

Sounds good, hopefully over summer the grass will die, fall over, break off, blow away and you will be left with a nice big clay pan Carpark sounds good too.

I imagine its a bit wet! Here in Bendigo we have had rain almost non-stop since yesterday evening. Wind outside is howling too! Hope if anyone got out in it this weekend they had a blast and no injuries.

Nothing like a bit o' bitumen for a bit o' speed. Make sure you are strapped in and are wearing helmets.

Have fun ladies and gents!! and young uns too!!

See you down at the tyre shop on Monday.

Nah, they have made their decision and made sure that wont happen by filling in the entrance channel to the "Wetlands".
We have moved on.
NEW is new and has wonderful prospects. It's great to be heading up a club with a bright future.
Like all sailing clubs, all we ask for is wind!!!

Does that mean the 'Wetlands' still get fed water (run-off or otherwise), but not the 'sailing pool'? Having never been to the lake Im not sure what the layout is.

Any pics from last weekend? Oh, and do you get to use the airstrip at all?
