l enjoy taking before and after pics of the changes I make, its a good way to get some comments and also a way to check my own work.l
i now have over 300 likes and reactions on a international Facebook page and only just a couple of bags from the old school side.
Im starting to see the end of the long tunnel now, once the below decks are finished I plan a coat of kiwi grip on the decks.

Whenever I finish/achieve something meaningful to me, I take 20 seconds just to think about it.
What you have done looks great.

I liked the interior of your Dunc when you did that and likewise I approve of what you are doing now. It lifts the look of the boat from being a dark hole to something a bit more bright and cheerful.

Yes to what Loose said, making below light and cheerful is a good thing in my eyes at least!
South, how much wood is going to be left unpainted? I like the idea of some feature wood as a bit of a relief, but too much of it and your eyes would never sit still, they'll be chasing these wooden lines all over the place. Might be a bit tricky getting the balance right.

Edit: I confess to that comment is not mine, I had an interior designer hanging over my shoulder having a stickybeak

Thanks loosechange on the Dunc I rolled 2 pack poly but this one is getting satin white with a green tint.
The next decision is will I paint the forward cabin door once it's fitted and if the shipwright returns to fit it!
I'm trying to find a cabin door handle seems they retail around $300 !

SA I think your ships clock and barometer look out of place now.

I know a cat where they would looks really nice, and just the right size too

nicely done.

Nah, I like the original better. Antiques are always better in the original. Anyway, woodwork is cosy. Otherwise you would have had bare fibreglass.

Well for me not a quick sand as the surface was a mixture of gummy oils and vanishes and messy epoxy work , I used wet rub 180 grit most of the time to reduce dust. The paint system is first class hardly No smell and recoatable with in 1 to 2 hours. Just strait white was to bright so I had it tinted to "new leaf" which gives it a green tinge look.

Have to admit, the Zinsser stuff is the best. i have just finished painting a rental and couldn't find a stain blocker that would cover some kind of fluro blue, green and purple stains. The Zinsser did it first go.

Totally agree on that, I painted a house and used the Zinsser undercoat on everything, gloss oil based paint and even over some vinyl wallpaper that I couldn't get off, next coat went on super easy.

I'm looking for a experienced upside down sander for the weekend I don't mind doing the masking up and painting , can pay in beer and eye fillet steaks!

I like the change Southace, I reckon the seats really transformed the before and after as well. I'm not a big fan of the modern formica look, but somewhere in between with real wood as a feature rather than overwhelming is my taste. On my boat, I did the white trick on the cabin entry, the wood was bleached on the companionway side panels, but the wooden handles came up nicely after a scrape, and really pop set off by the flat white background. Now I just have to re-touch it up after the ladies bangle and such have scratched it, but easier than looking after varnish. I may do the same on the panels near the hull port lights, again there will be a nice contrast with mahogany around it.
cheers Richard

Someone quoted it's the herreshoff look , now that I think about it I can see it sort of is.
She's a 85 model so doesn't need to be a full classic wood look below decks.
The deck beams will be a feature in clear coat and luckily that part seems to be fine craftsmanship. It appears in some of the work they failed to remove the epoxy excess which is a bit of work to sand back which is partly the reason while I'm painting.

Love sanding and painting upside down ! looks like eye fillet steak and beers for me as I found no helpers! One more coat in a hour and I can remove the tape! I love boats!

How old are you sands , no smell and like plastic coating when removing from roller tray , re-coat after 2 hours . Why would you go oil based paints ? With the water based technology that's around now?

You'll be sorry if you use it in traffic areas, I used a similar product in the cockpit and the plastic film you speak of makes its way all through your companion way and cabin soles in little pieces and strangely enough that's where it becomes sticky again !

The sanded areas and places I didn't want paint are a bitch to remove needs to be completely sanded to remove paints.

Old enough to know better .............. if i want durable , hard wearing and good looking satin or gloss paint . I use enamel paint .

The tech is ok for external and internal wall house paint . But not timber trim internal in traffic areas.

There is a trend to use it in all those applications , but it is inferior to real enamel .

It is enamel just water based . Seems rock solid I don't see the need for a oil based paint as u suggested?

I really don't think I could enter the boat after using oil based paints.
