Hi all

I had a bit of time this afternoon so i wandered around Port Huon and took some photo's of some of the local boats

Lucy (photo 3), Ramrod (photo 20) and the Motor Boat (photo 9) were all built here

All of the boats in the photo's are only 30 seconds away from where we live and there are a lots more moored and tied up at jettys along the river between here and Huonville where i work so i will take a few more photo's of interesting ones and post them also

Lucy in the 3rd photo has just been finished by her owner builder and him and his wife intend to sail her around the world shortly

Regards Don

Maluka in the 8th photo is a old timber gaffer full of hi tech equipment that has raced in the Sydney Hobart the last couple of years by Sean Langman who also owns the Olive May in photo 10 www.kermandie.com.au/olivemaym.aspx/

The blue double ender I believe was sailed over from england by a few local blokes a couple of years ago

The Adams 40 footer in the 3rd last photo was built by the owner without a engine or electronics ans him and his wife have sailed her around the pacific
All of the rigging on her was hand spliced instead of swaged by the owner and all of the bronze fittings were cast to patterns made by the owner

The Radford 12.2 in the 22nd photo is called Red Jacket and has a bit of history radford-yacht.com/dsn026/dsn026.html and is still quick but Ramrod photo 20 that was designed and built here by Rod Goode is just as quick and they have some good battles

The innocent looking Jenneau 33i called Femme Fatale in photo 19 that i crew on punches well above her weight mainly due to the skill of her owner skipper Jeff Sharp who is 73, has sailed in this area all his life, has done 13 Sydney Hobarts and is a top bloke as well as a top class sailer and at the awards nights takes away about half of the trophies each year

With Femme Fatale Jeff has just shouted her a new Stratis Ice http://www.doylesails.com/stratis/ice.html main sail to complement the 2 laminated headsails we use so we expect her to go a bit harder this year

Great Pics Donk
People really look after their boats down there....or your photography is very flattering. I think I spotted a really old Flying 15 in there somewhere....or a very close reseblance.

Yep

In this area there are a lot of people who are interested in wooden boats and most of them are pretty tidy

At Franklin 7 mins up the road there is the Wooden Boat Centre www.woodenboatcentre.com/ where the Huon Kelly was built

as well as the Living Boat Trust lbt.rforster.org/ where wooden builts are built and restored

Here in Port Huon we have Dean Marks Boat Building http://deanmarksboatbuilding.com/ who also builds new ones and restores old ones and as well as Rod Goode (retired) who designed and built around 49 various boats including Ramrod (the racer in the first lot of photo's), various other racers including this one sundancemarine.com.au/brokerage/30ft-to-39ft-yacht-sales/2001-huon-10/ and the Huon range of motor sailers www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/sailing-boats/huon-33-huon-breeze/153042

There is also another talanted local here who as a hobby builds beautiful wooden yachts, dinghys and is currently building himself a huon pine motor boat

Port Huon is only small but boats and sailing is a big part of the community and a great place to live if you like boats
