Hi HG
They both look pretty good to me
Regards Don
Great photo brings back memory's! I prefer to sail strait and level with my rudder in the water!
Hi Southace
The thing about these two rudder boats is that the other one is probably vertical in the water when the boat is healed like this

I understand that but I like to keep strait and level going fast on one central rudder....that's how I cruise anyway.

southace.

Just off to the toilet be back soon
Thanks Donk, not my boat but I was on the helm :)
funny thing is we put off hoisting the code zero (sail in this pic) for half the leg as the wind was too far fwd. wind went aft, we hoisted and it went fwd and picked up 5 knots!!
actually got 'a bit on' in the photo!!
Hi Rumblefish
I think that the hills and the valleys that surround us make the wind direction a bit of a lottery
What did you think of the Elan after spending a bit of time on her
Regards Don

bullets of wind similar to the whitsundays in a way when they race
It is not a lottery you just need a different mind set.
Like sailing on small inland lakes
I remember once a couple of years ago in a race we were sailing down the river and another boat was sailing up the river and we were both carrying spinnakers and quite often when you look up at the windex it is doing circles at the top of the mast

You want fluky? I'll give you fluky.
Flying Fifteen nationals, Canberra. The first problem is that we're carrying a spinnaker, three-quarter reaching on starboard tack on what should be the windward leg of the windward/return. The second problem is that we came across a boat a leg behind, also broad reaching on starboard tack - but coming in the opposite direction, so close we both started to call starboard. Somehow we sailed past close enough to brush each other's sails, both broad reaching under spinnaker on starboard, but going in completely opposite directions.
On a bad day in Canberra the standard course is a beat, a reach, a gybe, another reach, a beat, and a run- all before you get to the first mark.

The Elan is a great boat.
Pretty well thought out, especially downstairs.
Like the single line reefing, twin wheels, quality of deck grip, clean lines, flush hatches and thd beautiful way it handles.
Dislike the German mainsheet system on this size boat.
Also 36:1 on the backstay with a flicker and stiff mast means you're pulling 5m of rope before you get anywhere. Purchase also has too much friction but we are fixing that.
Sometimes, Sunday was ok until the last 200m!!
