Iam sure most of you have kept up with the latest from these guys but for those that haven't. Check out the link below.

i saw on one you tube vid by another guy that estimated La Vagabonds yearly income through paetreon and YouTube advising etc to be at $350k plus.

The same guy also counted at around 400 sailing video bloggers.

Way of of the future.

Good luck to them with their digital life. She is a very good spunk to look at and he comes across as "one of the guys" but I gave up on them a while ago.

I am sure that at least 50% of their digital viewers are there to perv on her. Can't knock it. She is a super spunk

$350,000 per year for posting popular Youtube videos is obscene.

There is a brand new dance but I don't know it's name....Fashion!!!

I reckon they are doomed!

I liked the free and easy low budget aspect of when they first started, watching them learn about sailing, having an adventure that most of us could relate to and even afford to do.

Read the comments on their videos and they appear to be getting more and more negative ones each video. Not a good sign and I think the Cat deal pissed quite a few of their original followers off.

Now they are all about the money, churning out less and less appealing videos just for the sake of raising money. They are now even going to hire someone to be the camera person on their million dollar cat, sail the same places they have already shown us, boring!

Much more competition out there now with sailing vbloogers with more interesting/different/varied story lines. I understand even Delos has declined in Patreons as they are becoming somewhat tired. Everything has a lifespan.

I think they will get an initial boost with the fancy new Cat, but will probably struggle within a reasonably short time. The Cat is financed from their video income, so it could all turn to crap pretty quickly.

I suspect journeys to more extreme places will be the next "big" thing for sailing vbloggers, Arctic, Antartic, etc on a budget. Don't think the Outremer is the vehicle for that though, double whammy! They should have gone for a Garcia!

One cool point is that la vagabond and SV Delos have more views than the Americas cup coverage.

There is a direct link through the increase of google searches with the Oceanis Beneteau as when SLV gained popularity as the same increase in people searching the Amel brand as Delos got movement.
Now to put that into advertising dollars I am not sure what Luis Vuitton is spending but Beneteau and Amel have got massive amount of exposure at no cost to them thanks to SLV and Delos, which has to be great for sailing.

Since Outreamer announced the partnership with SLV they had the biggest spike in their history and it's remained higher than previous levels of interest. So giving SLV a million dollar plus Cat at a reduced price and setting everything up has been the best bang for buck advertising they could ever imagine. Considerably more people have looked at Outreamer than the current Americas Cup.

Its crazy that these susccesfull bloggers have have given the declining yachting industry the biggest shot in the arm seen for quite awhile even though it's probably not reflected at our own local clubs.

I do agree. They are having their 15 minutes.

I do like Skip Novak ventures to Antarctic. Even though that's not really on a budget.

But yes. Plenty of choice now of guys out there doing it.

Amel and Outreamer are perhaps somewhat benefiting from the exposure, bringing their brand forward, but how much that turns into sales dollars is unknown, they are expensive kit. I think if they were a Beneteau or Lagoon, the exposure would turn into more real sales dollars. To me, Outreamer and Amel are more hard core brands for experienced sailors that won't really benefit much from a nice looking bloke and chick (who can't sail) selling their product. Might help the second hand market though, which could increase their reputation I guess?

Take a look at Sailing Zatara, nice family, successful, with a bit of cash to buy a late model Oceanis 55 and sail the world. Much more relatable to those that can actually afford a newish boat. I think Beneteau would do well getting behind this kind of family with some behind the scenes support to show an Oceanis can (debatably) sail the world.

Not a big fan of this aspirational 'look how cool I am' genre at all (I concur with cisco's comments).

My favourite is the Jean de Sud's film. Southern ocean solo circumnavigation in an Alberg 30 more than 30 yrs ago. It's the benchmark IMO, all shot on 16mm film. The youtube link, but I see now you have to pay to see the full version (on youtube at least).

I notice on the youtube trailer they have a different sound track to the original film (which is not as good).

I wanna see adventures and good vblogs with small boats. I aim to do this although i cannot be bothered videoing while sailing. I need to get over this if im to create good videos. Ive got some good gear and can do it. I guess ill have the time.
North west passage on a tophat?
I wanna travel to the places i havent been yet - for myself. Canada, Alaska, Scandinavia. Id looove to see videos on this.
i did find some videos somewhere of someone sailing around nor east usa and nova scotia, greenland.
This interests me. Stopped watching SLV ages ago. Do love the girls, shes unreal. Too good for Riley i reckon.

Too good for Riley! No way....he's a top bloke for sure, and has a great perspective. I do think the move to the cat could be their undoing re their lifestyle at the moment, but if they are adaptable as I suspect they are, as this new chapter has it's day it will be the springboard to something else good even if it's not "fame" related.

he is a good dude i guess, but i found in the early videos he was a bit self absorbed and she contributed alot to the whole thing with her great personality and musicianship skills.

I am happy for them (Riley and Elayna ), they have found a way for themselves to sail the world enjoying themselves and have others pay for it, I wish I was so lucky, however the idea of all that work putting together vblogs weekly just doesn't appeal to me at all, personally I prefer followtheboat youtube channel, but to each their own.

Good on them, its awesome that they were able to fund the adventure, seems like they were in the right place at the right time, when patreon came along, it was perfect for them.
I was watching them from the first video they made, they are a couple of cool, fun loving aussies, that was interesting to watch that you could relate to.
Having said that...the video they made "Aussie couple score million dollar deal" was the last one I watched, its feeling like a bit of a sell-out, not so much of a couple of aussies buying a yacht in Europe to bring it home, and bumbling through the learning experience (which I liked & is relateable) to a high cost, high quality mini-series.
It never was a "how to" channel for sailors in the first place, & they appeal to a much wider audience than the small sailing community, good on them I'm glad for them.

I've watches a few of these stye of videos with young people buying a yacht to sail the world.
What I want to know is where do they get the initial money from to buy such expensive boats, and have some spare to maintain it while waiting for the money to start rolling in?

He bought the yacht before they met after saving for 8yrs working on oil rigs, by the sounds of the Q&A they did recently the idea came about after he broke his neck, paralysing his vocal chords, it caused him a lot of pain to talk so planned to live out the rest of his days in exile living the quiet life, so started saving for a yacht, he ended up regaining control of his vocal chords but continued the dream anyway. I have a feeling there is much more to that story than he let on though.

I don't get why people think they are sell outs, they publish their material online for free, it just sounds like envy to me, put yourself in their shoes and have someone knock on your door and offer you a great deal, would you shoot it down, or step your production up a notch to offer something more than the 400 other sailing vbloggers can? Under the same pretence should sports stars reject sponsorships and every yachtie who wrote a book on their journey publish it for free? Come on guys don't be jealous of others success, instead take some notes and put their enthusiasm and sense of adventure into your own life.

It cost money to make good content, they are getting better at making videos so the content is improving, could be better but theres been a marked change of late, they are hiring a videographer/ editor to have a pro do that part while they can focus on content, makes sense to me, hopefully a few less videos of her crying though.

Just thought I'd leave this here as from where I got my info.
He also has reported the SV Delos guys have been spending time in the Amel boat yard. Maybe another deal.
