i have been using the app for about 5 years now......
I noticed last year it said I need to re-subscribe. I think I did.

It's been telling me to re-subscribe for past months but I have still been using it without to many problems.
For some strange reason I decided to re-subscribe tonight costing me $47 odd dollars doesn't seem to be much diffrent do we need to re-subscribe annually or does Huston have a problem here?

looks like it will be an annual "option" to subscribe to updates , I think the biggest benefit would be the community edits of updated Bathy maps from sonar logs . On the way from Townsville to Cairns I went over sections of water that were mapped as 2m but were actually 8m .
Would be nice to add the 3 day wind forecast from the Navionics "FLY" app for pilots

From the website:
Existing users of “Marine”, “Marine&Lakes” apps-now named Navionics Boating- benefit too! The newly renamed apps, with previous Navionics chart regions purchased, will automatically get upgraded to Navionics+, which includes SonarChart™ and 12 months of free updates. After the 12 months expire users retain their charts and have the option to renew the subscription to updates.

I'm getting a little sick of the way the app makers seem to change the original purchase price. I paid $5 or something dollars for a invoice ASAP APP a few years ago. Early this year I went to write a invoice and a window came up now I will need to pay monthly about $4.50 to use the service. Problem if I wanted to change programs would be I would need to export over 100 invoices for tax reasons so now I'm stuck paying the monthly subscription. Seems the same with navionics . I was on the understanding apps where a one of payment and never a mention of changing to anual subscriptions!

It may depend on what tablet you are using, but if it's any i-Product you should be able to download it straight onto the new tablet/phone..

On a samsung using google play which i sign in with once using email addy, you just sign in again on another device and all your purchases are there and you just re download. Apple is changing always in favour of getting people to re purchase their own music etc...so dunno about apple...

Well i have paid my 12 monthly subscription and basicly what you get from that is updates to charts and the program.

i use to be very happy with navionics but now I have changed my mind.

one change I have noticed is that when doing a passage it won't refresh the screen as you leave the current chart zoom so you need to keep following your vessel as it leaves the screen Which is a pain.

Another update that's been changed is if you bring up a old track you can't navigate and lay a new track beside it. It's just a recording of the previous track you can see your vessel with GPS but will not lay a new track until you leave the previous track.

There does not seem to be any customer support and for $48 per customer thes guys must be getting super Ritch now!
why do they change things that where good?

Im going to search for a better Nav App.

Their customer support is actually quite good said I speaking from experience. The fact that I have had a huge amount to to with them is not good.

I have the Pacific Islands and Australia on both my iPad and iPhone and also have the same chips for my Lowrance so have spent a motza with them. I went to update my chips on the Lowrance which I had never done before, my fault, and they became corrupted. Fortunately I had evidence of purchase but still had to fork our over $300 for replacements. I know now to keep the bloody things updated.

The issue I have had is with Sonarcharts. I purchased a Vexilar T-Pod to attach to my Kiteboard so I could update some of the reef entrances that I use. All Fiji maps are bloody hopeless. you have to follow the rule "in after 10 and out before 4" because visibility is critical. The last survey was done when Captain Cook was a gleam in his dads eye and a lot of the information is based on aerial photos.

Anyhow the T-Pod turned out to be incompatible with Navionics. If you look at their advertising now it is quite clear but when I purchased it it was not. Long story short, I now have a T-Box portable which will fit in a dry bag on my back but now I cannot get Sonarcharts Live to operate. It displays a message saying that the sounder is not connected but on the same page in split screen it shows the sounder readings! Go figure.

Here are a couple of screen shots I took from a downwinder I did on Sunday

I ran out of water right at the end. I was kiting in six inches and the coral was making awful noises on the bottom of the board. I had to walk the last 200 meters!
