Well that title has lots of acronyms.....

I have a Standard Horizon GX1000s with DSC functionality but I dont have a GPS to feed my location to the unit. I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a GPS around the $100 - $300 mark which I could wire up to my radio so that my position will be automatically communicated if we hit the DSC button? Not sure about handheld vs fixed. I prefer things to be fixed on board and not loose. But if theres a handheld unit that can sit in a cradle thats connected to VHF most of the time that would be good also.

thoughts??

Felixe,
I have a standalone Furuno GPS 32 as my primary GPS configured in the manner which you describe.
It's a fixed mount, I went this way as I wanted to read easily the data independent of the PC or NKE mfd's. The 4.5" screen is excellent for this: lat/long, sog, heading Etc is all easily viewable from the other side of the cabin.
One negative behind the fixed: normally you need the separate GPS antenna, might be a consideration compared to a handhold in a cradle.

The Furuno was cheap, my secondary GPS is the NKE and it's a squillion dollars in comparison.:(
