So still cleaning up my father in laws sheds. He has these two outboard motors. They look quite old. Just wondering if anyone can shed a bit of light on if they were any good back in their day or if they were lemons.
First is a volvo penta. Very faded 200 is on the top sticker. Second is a Victa Jet which looks pretty unique for an outboard.
Offer the Victa to the Science Museum. Classic Aussie try at manufacturing that needs to be preserved. We need to get back to making our own equipment instead of being Paul Keating's Banana Republic.
I had a Volvo Penta outboard in my endeavour 24 in the early seventies. It was a terrible piece of kit! The jet propulsion on that Victa was a brilliant idea at the time. I'm surprised they were not more successful. That will sell very easily.
Cool thanks crew. Looks like the Victa is of interest by the replies. I did a little web research in the meantime. From the swiss cheese info of old outboard forums it seems the victa was from the early 70s and is a lawnmower engine? Ive tried to join a couple of facebook pages so see what info and interest comes up there.

The Victa is the 160 Sportsman motor that was sold in the thousands. I have at least 5 in my lawnmower shed and spare covers if needed. I like that ignition cut off switch!
Thanks Ramona. I will take you up on that offer if possible. The one I have has a crack in it so it would be cool to get an undamaged one if you have one spare.
