Got a great hydraulic trolley for cats, like the stuff they use in Holland. Bit remote from shops without a car but contact Australian Liveaboards on facebook, they have plenty of helpful characters on the Gold Coast.

Gotta love that FreeRad.....Anyway I would suggest Newcastle for a much cheaper haul out.

Sam- Can you name the yard/s in Newcastle? That would be more convenient than Port Stephens, as is it is just a train ride away from most places in Sydney.

Hi Yara.
My next door neighbour has a 47 footer and goes there to anti foul. I don't know
the name of the yard, but next time I see him I'll ask and post it.
He reckons a boat his size is just too expensive to work on down here. I've just
learned my local yard has stopped DIY weekends due to insurance problems.
What a pain.

You could be thinking of Mid Coast marine. They are at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.

Good Morning all (Gday boofheads), I was browsing (havin a gander of) "seabreeze" for weather and incidentally (some big wanky word) stubbled upon the Topic Romance in your forums to which I quickly subscribed. I left Arcachon in France at the end of February and my ETA into Port Sydney should be 11 days, if the rest of my sails permit. I had few bashings (copped a flogging) on the way and my catamaran is in desperate need of repairs (almost cactus). Could I have some info (guff) about honest boat yards please. I come to Australia (Straya) to perfect my English (Aussie slang), have a well deserved long brake (bludge), meet a lot of people with the same passion and drink (get blotto on) the Australian wine (cheap piss). I am looking forward (hangin) to meet a lot (bunch) of you (yous), as being alone on a boat is not always ideal (crap) for an outgoing personne like me. Kind Regards LJ

There you go!

You forget the lady is French - she will drink the wine. Mind you, some of our wines are top class.

McNaught- not too many matadors your way. You would have to come down to Sydney to find them. Speaking of Spain, I have a much treasured and used recipe for paella, from a long out of print book called "Cooking Afloat." The recipe originated from a Spanish Don who owned a boat called Artemisa. Now there is some trivia! You need a good paella pan and lots of olive oil.

Heard the rates at Lemon Tree Passage Marina at Port Stephens are reasonable.

Port Stephens is beautiful. Spectacular waterway and coast. Downside is the average transport.

Berthing at the Maritime Museum Wharf at Newcastle is as cheap as you will get. $25 a day regardless of size and type of boat. Locked wharf with power. Great access to trains and buses, shopping..,,,,, No issues with making repairs at wharf. Clearance port for customs.

From what I have heard firsthand, for a modern yard Noakes at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club are reasonable. Good standard of work. Though the place is now called the Midcoast Boatyard. I do not know the circumstances?????

Young bloke sail maker in the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club complex might not be the cheapest, but he is reliable Always done good work for me.

Decent access to suppliers etc. Train to Sydney is a nice trip.

With repairers be VERY cautious. Make sure they have good recommendations. Too many are predators waiting to milk you for every cent. DON'T even consider Sailor Marine North Harbour Sydney. Rogues!!!!!

TKX Semus for the corrections to my post and your encouragements. Yara Mate, would you like my phone number too? See you in Port Jackson, definitely for the fire works of the new year, it is spectacular on TV, cannot wait to see it from under the bridge: I have the wine if you have the time, but I won't be there to cook you breakfast.
You are very lucky to deal with these rude sailors McNaughtical, as in France they are also rude, the difference is that they mean it. See you in Coffs Harbour.
HGO2, I am taking your advise, heading up 10 starboard to Southport. I found on the net a boat yard up the Coomera River,TKX Phoenix, called multihull solutions. Are they any good? Nice pictures too, thank you very much HGO2, but tell me, what is the G doing swimming in water, this one flew over my head.
Southace, she is a 49 home build on carbon fibber injection technology and Catalina drawings. The difference with the standard 47 Cat is that the bow emergency exits have been omitted during construction and the hatchs are wider on both hulls. Both front cabins are used for sail storage and water tight compartments. The mast is CF 1.2 metres longer than the Cat47 and the rigging is totally different and the running stuff is all controlled from the cockpit, she is light and fast. The hulls did not suffer any damage as they are build like a "brick poo house"(I did not want to say ****). I lost the genoa halyard from the mast top which shredded the main on the way down, a winch and the port board and rudder. It is my fault I had too much canvas and saw it coming too late.
Thank you all for your nice words. Looks like I am in for more flogging on land

As far as I am aware they still do DIY at Gonsales (or whatever he is called now) at Palm Beach. Can't do a soda blast as it dosen't have drainage to EPA standards, but your normal scrape and paint is OK.

I use Sirsi and swear by them. MB is out of the water there right now and one of the things I had asked them to do was wet rub and polish the top sides. Corey rang me today to say they had done a test patch and the wet rub didn't add a lot to the finish. He could have done the job and billed me $420 for the wet rub. He didn't, so did himself out of the $420.
He is a straight shooter and they do a good job. When they do make a mistake they own up and fix it.
Very highly recommended.

Bring it home a great idea as fitting out measuring and make would be so much easier and your not wasting time traveling and forgetting to measure or bring something to the boat you forgot .
Also at home you would not need insurance you could plan do things so much better and far less stress and much more enjoyable
Plus you would probably do extra things that you will regret later not doing

Welcome to OZ. best boatyard on the East coast by far is Boatworks in SE QLD. www.theboatworks.com.au

If you have to come into Sydney aim a little further north to Broken Bay. New Port Marine located at Royal Motor Yacht Club in Pittwater are great crew and wont rip you off. If beam is over 6 meters then they are the only slip wide enough to haul you out in this area. As already advised DO NOT go into Sydney Harbour for repairs as rates there are only for those with plenty of $s. Cheers

You are right FR, this is an amazing time for me. What makes it more amazing are the people so ready to help and share the guffs. You are all so friendly I am humbled. I love you Australians, I really love you.
I turned around Monday night to northeast to hide behind Drala (Fiji) as I was very tired and my decision making level was low. I had long sleeps in the last 2 days and assessed the situation and dry the boat. So here is a list of discrepancies HGO2: the upper bracket top bolts of the genoa stay are broken, the bottom bolts are bent and teared a chunk of CF when they left, probably thinking what a stupid idiot I was for not slacking off the aft stays when I shimmed the mast. So the mast has to come off and the fittings have to be dye-check, I cannot see any cracks yet. The port rudder shaft snapped an inch past the sleeve and I packed the upper bearing with teflon shavings to stop the port bilge pump light to come on every hours. I have half of the port board left. Genoa winch top part is gone his own way. My most expensive main has exploded due to the whip effect of the fwrd stay and the genoa clew is gone as well as well as the haly. But it was so good to get the starboard hull out and feeling the vibrations of the hull, it was lovely......for a short time. I just want to believe I was doing 22kts. I decided to go straight to NZ with Norfolk as alternate and once fixed I want to check the Tasman on the way to Hobart, then the east cost of Australia. After that, I have no idea.
I have plenty of interesting pictures which I shall share once my Inmarsat credit is replenished. For a time I shall restrict my transmissions to a minimum.
Thank you very much to all of yous
LJxxx

Lady Jane. It is a long way from Fiji to New Zealand. There has been some nasty weather around NZ lately too. The safe approach would be to try to get your critical repairs done in Fiji.

Over to you, Seabreezers, know any good yards in Fiji?

Depending on your final timing, better to be in Northern Australia now, and head south in our spring. Dec Jan is the best time for Tasmania.

It is a long way Yara, but I need to keep the starboard hull in the water for steerage and with luck I shall have a 3/4kts current to push me and an eastern wind. I do not want to repair in Fiji as CF repairs are sensitive to humidity and control of temperature and humidity are critical. I really don't want to sail the Tasman with a dodgy repair.
I understand your concerns but the boat can take it.
