Im gonna sail up to pittwater saturday and was wondering if anyone would be around for a bbq aboard somewhere. Weather should be good.
I thought there is some kind of super storm coming through the south next weekend? I should be there in March if you can wait!
All that red and purple looks scary. Ill be playing it by ear anyway as usual but im keen if the weathers ok.
Not sure about the accuracy of that prediction was sent from a mate waiting to sail from Perth to Adelaide.

Would have caught up with you, but we will be doing a regatta at Jervis Bay for the long weekend.
BOM is showing a flurry early on Saturday morning down there, but nothing serious at this stage. At least if the weather does come through, we can get to the bar early to get good seats to watch a grand final........

Cant make Saturday but may get out to Pittwater on Sunday/Monday.
Did a quick google search and could'nt find any public moorings in the area to tie up to overnight.
Do people normally drop anchor somewhere in Pitwatter or is it best to sail up the river to Refuge Bay?
There's hardly any public moorings.. most of them are the yacht club's or RMYC etc.. and are normally chockers on public holidays.
Gidday Chris and Patto.Sat night we'll be either at Ettalong/Wagstaff Central coast, under barrenjoey head. or portuguese beach. Somewhere sheltered - even the basin. theres moorings around if youre lucky, but ive no issue using the pick anywhwere as oong as its sheltered.
America/refuge bay is ok to drop the pick. theres a few moorings, but to be honest im not a fan of the place as its chockers on any holiday weekend. Hallets beach around the corner from America bay is Very nice to stay. Usually nice and quiet, sheltered and very beautiful. Further up the hawkesburry i really love Cotton tree Bay. Theres a few moorings there. Im thinking my first few nights will be in pittwater, maybe even perrys beach. Perrys, portuguese , pugnose point are really nice. Pugnose you can have the bay to yourself most the time.
Weirdly The Basin is sheltered it seems in northerlies - even though it kinda faces north.

I bought a new battery and a wind meter and finally have all the control lines back to the cockpit, so it should be a great trip.
Being a long weekend, there will be very few moorings available in Refuge / Americas, but plenty of room to drop a pick. The Basin will be standing room only. If there is no swell, Patonga is worth a look.
Depending on how much you draw, there are 2 vacant moorings in Pittwater, west of Taylors Point Wharf. They are located either side of my boat and both appear to be in good condition. The inshore one is in less than 2 metres of water and would suit a boat up to 23 ft. The northern one has more swing area and has 3 metres under it, but has been vacant for about 6 months. Not protected in a westerly tho.
In Pittwater during a westerly, drop a pick at Towlers Bay or Portugese Beach. Another option is to book a berth at RMYC (or one of the marinas at Bayview/Church Point) for a night.

Just check to make sure the beach is not in a National Park, otherwise it might get expensive.
im not really sure im liking the looks of the synoptic charts.
1 big low should pass saturday, but then theres another one behind it.
Bom is reporting 35knots for coastal waters on saturday, but seabreeze says about 20knots - in sydney.
Sounds like theres potentially some unsettled weather north and this is to broken bay. Pittwater might be a bit unpleasant...

Ive also crushed my thumb today which aint good for sailing. If the weather was looking stable, no problem, but im not sure we are going to have stable weather over the weekend...
Bom seems to be quite conservative with their wind strengths for the next few days. Seabreeze for the South coast has 35 knots for most of the next 5 days. Considering Seabreeze always under estimates in my area I would suggest finding something in your shed to occupy your time over the long weekend. Perhaps watch some videos of the SA weather they just had. I think I will just watch the Bathurst race and stay off the water and away from tourists.

Always tinker like mad on the boat prior to a planned trip only for the weather to go bananas...
I'm hopeful the weather will be Ok.
Very keen to get out but with my limited experience, I'm not prepared to take unecessary risks.

Synoptics showing a gorgeous day sunday maybe with a bit of wind but a gorgeous day.
Bom showing coastal to 30knots and its looking like it could be wind against swell sat and monday which would be when im sailing to and from sydney harbour.
Sea breeze showing 30+ in newcastle sat and monday.
kinda wanna relax and have a nice easy sail. ive got a mate staying whos used to living in lovely places like iraq and afghanistan. Im sure he could handle it, but i was thinking more of a nice brisk sail and and some fishing later... it may not be like that.
we may go out sunday. sunday looks like a great day. sat and mon could by iffy.

Trips off for me sailing from syd due to potential unstable weather. There's different reports but the common theme is shifts in weather. Could be unpredictable plus not pleasant sailing weather
Well we had an exciting day in pittwater today ON THE MOORING! Gusted over 40 knots according to the instruments. Put paid to fixing that dodgy staunchion, but very impressed with the young lads running the tender service.

Well the charts were spot on. I thought sat and Monday would be super windy and Sunday would be gorgeous. Went out yesterday and had a really nice sail. Played around with my down hauls wind meters, and got about 3 kms out the heads. I usually can't be bothered with sheet to tiller but had a successful day with sheet to tiller.heading out the heads and back in I was on a beam reach and couldn't fault the system. Stayed right on the compas course the whole tack.
sheet to tiller only really works on beam or close to the wind. Some people wanted to see it in action in a bit of wind. I guess there were gusts of about 25 yesterday and the sheet to tiller worked a treat. I made some videos on the go pro so I'll upload them today.
i can confirm that there was a lot of wind on Saturday... We sailed sydney to broken bay and got smashed by plus 40 knot winds! Was a big sail, scary but fun, we sailed back sunday, which was my most relaxed sail ever!

We didnt make it to Pittwater, opting to just stay local.
15 knots from the NE in the afternoon
An intermittant problem with the headsail furler has re-appeared again. It does'nt unfurl properly from time to time.
Fairly certain It's not 'halyard wrap'.
If I cant nut it out, I might need to employ the help of the brains trust here.

Chris make sure your halyard is not over tightened can make furling hard.
