Maybe arranged marriages last because the culture that goes for arranged marriage doesn't have much tolerance for separation/divorce and they just stay together happy or not... ???

In these societies they stick to their clans, and this is already an advantage. Common background, common values. Parents look beyond the first flush of passion, and as many of us know, that first flush fades. However, provided the child can articulate what they find attractive in a partner, the parent can select a close match.
Compare with boats. I havn't fallen out of love with my current boat, but she just doesn't excite me like she used to. However, when I look at bigger boats, even though they might seem to be perfect, I dont seem to be able to fall in love with any of them.

Gee Yara, you have described my relationship with my boat perfectly. The passion isn't there but I cannot see any other yacht that would excite any passion. Maybe I will grow through it and get the passion back.
I have been married 37 years and still love my wife, so don't get the wrong message here.
Thanks Maxbm,
I don't find this surprising or even controversial, and the link to our relationships with boats is so apt.
So firstly, a comment about me, I'm a romantic, I love old boats, I love wood, I love all those shapely bits, but I also love FAST and modern. I'm loyal, but I still like to keep up with the times.
I have kids who fall in and out of love. Some of them constantly want the new shiny toy, the best brands, the next big thing. I have other kids, who want to fix up something broken, who just like to hold onto their favorite cuddly bear...even now that they have turned 16.
Perhaps this is the story of our modern world - we are all in one camp or the other.
Those that churn through boats, like they may do in relationships, are probably seeking the 'best', they may do so for status or ego - they just might be wired that way!
Others that just can't give up on their loves, that enjoy the journey of repairing, the special feel from the tiller, or even just tolerate the drip drip drip from that ole stuffing box, that look deeper than the gelcoat.
...and where do I fit? I'm married for life, I have a 15 year old boat, 10 year old car, have lived in the same house I bought when I was 21...but jeez, If I could afford a Hanse 455, or a fancy Pozo, I might just depart from my gorgeous 'Yvonne' boat not wife!)
Quote "been married 37yrs and still love wife"
Well I would be touching wood and throwing a pinch of salt over one shoulder.
Well done. Me being the superstitious type might be saying "don't breath out! Hold still! Don't change a thing "
But hey, time stops for no one. Flick the boat, keep the wife.
New boat with a smaller v berth and a different rolling action at anchor might just be what the doctor ordered.
P.s. I glad my earlier post reads ok.
It's certainly a topic that when mentioned. Is mostly mentioned in the negative only.
I'm not the best with words and was a tiny bit worried.
Again, I'm not in the culture of that practice, neither is my old friend, nor would she want to be. Just a topic to throw out into the ether.
The singles game, dating and relationships is an infinite field game.
Anything from dumb luck to best intentions can leave a player, winner, loser or mostly somewhere inbetween.
And the players keep appearing and the game never ends.
that pussy does not match the fabric !!!!! you need a cammo cat !!!!!!

okydoky ...................
you know what ? .............. this has nothing to do with sailing , cats or anything really , except that i LOVE it !!!!
Our romance is still going strong so far however Trim refuses to help with any onboard duties!
The only true unconditional love in my grumpy-crazy-old-cat-lady's opinion. Trim looks absolutely beautiful, Southace. Makes my stony heart melt . Cats and boat porn make me go all silly
Thanks Maxbm,

Love this Concepcion. Nice analogy.
I'm a romantic too, but I have a horse that I've had for 22 years... She's been with me longer than any man..LOL

Remove 'mobile home' and replace with 'sailing boat' in billy's lyrics.
Best thread on the forum so far! As they say, "Thanks for sharing".
Lol.... my Romance thread had slipped so far into antiquity it took me an hour to find it.
Cards held tightly against chest Loose Change.
I was hoping this thread had died, romance, like love is a delusion that people, who should know better, believe in as they cannot handle the truth that it is all just a chemical and biological reaction designed to propagate the species, friendship lasts far longer than any chemical high, if it is truly a two way friendship and not one person using another for their own selfish gain.
Oh dear ....
Long live Romance...
If it were as you say Bruski, the chemical and biological reaction would no longer be there when the ability to procreate ends as it does for the females of the species.
However this is clearly not the case as far as humans go. And yes, the best romance is always also a wonderful friendship.
Odd thing, love. It's not tactile....it's impossible to describe, but, by crikey you can feel it and you can feel when it's gone too.

Sure - but what a chemical biological reaction. Wouldn't miss it for quids.
Oh yes that's right we did have a thread called romance.
I think I to old for this
I'd be more focus on first mates these days someone that could sail while I had a Granny( poppy nap) nap and enjoyed my cooking

Only practising MB, I've been hitched for 44 years and the wife, god bless her, let me go cruising for seven months last year, mind you she is in NZ for a month at the moment with relatives, so like a good friendship it works both ways.
[Except I've put on 2 kg since she went ]

After 17 years my X wife untied the lines because she knew it was killing me inside not being able to do what I wanted . Both are happy now . She's a great lady but not a salty

Heck !! I don't remember what happened ten minutes ago, let alone what happened a 'long time' ago
Sigh.....I've chased my partner ( fiance) around the world once.
She chased me twice
And its now completely clear.
We both love my dog
Yes, wear it on your sleeve, no confusion that way, well not so much anyway !! Come to think about it, that hasnt worked for me either, Ah what the heck, Just live your life to the fullest
