My Engel is now well over 3 years old but if it died tomorrow Id buy the same thing again even if the price doubled. Mine sits (strapped down) where a port side bunk used to be and at 38litres its perfect.

A lay mans test to tell if you freezer is holding down to temp is ice cream. Ice needs at least -10 to hold it. I usually try and have a box of Drum sticks in the freezer but they mysteriously keep disappearing.

I still don't know what model mine is....I have googled the control panel same as my gally main fridge saying its a dixell but they only make the controller ..... It's plastic with no name or plates on it. I asume its running a bd35 or bd50 compressor I would like to buy a insulating bag but unsure of the model. I have 4 litres of milk and 300ml of sour cream in it now . Sitting -7 for past hour.

Old man sleeping.I hate your picture for the following reasons:
a. Your 1/4 berth is bigger than my boat .
and
b. My genny is a crap Ryobi.
And I hated the image of the calamari too!
Sleep time.

+1 for the Engel 38lt Eclipse. Low power usage & quiet. We use it only as a fridge, but it has done service as a freezer, although not intentionally.

I will need to remove it soon as it currently sits in the quarter berth and the space needs to revert to a berth for an upcoming trip. The Engel just doesn't fit anywhere else, so I plan to remodel the existing eutectic fridge / icebox into a smaller version of itself with a new eutectic plate. If I could find a new spot for the Engel it would solve all my problems.

Ah, EC31. When i first saw your title East Coast 31 jumped out at me. But today I went to your images and there she is, an East Coast 31 built by Bruce Fairlie of Fairlite Plastics at Gosford. I was there a couple of months ago getting some perspex.

I need to visit them soon for the same reason. And probably some new door frame surrounds while I am there. It has been a 5 year project to restore her to where she is now, but nothing compared to the fantastic restoration jobs documented in these pages.

I am in awe of your plans for the trip south. Tassie is on my bucket list, but a few more years down the track. Still trying to get myself setup for a trip north next year.

Agree, nothing on earth beats Honda gennies. But the 4 stroke outboard? Way to heavy for this old (& injured) bugger lift onto the boat.
And in NSW, any out board of more than 5hp must be on a registered vessel only. That means , say, a Parsun 5.8 (and not a true 5.8 when you consider cubic capacity) MUST be registered....perhaps in NSW only.
Ace, is the Suzuki a single cyl or a twin? At the weight and 138 c.c.'s I suspect it's a single cyl. And as an ex-mechanic I love Suzuki.
I lost a Honda 5hp (legal in nsw) off Batemens Bay 6 years ago. It too was a ripper like the Suzie. 128 c.c.'s against the S @ 138, same weight.
I'love a 6hp Suze for my rib (instead of 5hp merc) but the it has to be registered. Frustration!
And in nsw more than 10 knots needs a license any way.
Cheers.

EC31. Your "in awe" was received as approvel rather than 'you must be kidding, in a Triton 721!!'.
I've only been to Tas once, car camping in winter and fell in love with the place.
The GBR area really appeals to me as well but I'm quite sunlight/heat intolerant.
And frankly I'd rather be blasting north in a southerly against the East Australia current tha crossing BS unassisted in so small a boat. But Tas has been the goal for 7 years so it just has to be done. Sorry 'bout thread drift.
Cheers.
