Shooting the breeze this morning at my mates place checking out his new yacht tender/work boat. It's an 18 foot clinker fibreglass put put and he has installed this single cylinder about 10 hp Sabb diesel. The motor came out of a 32 foot ferro yacht. The rocker cover is off in the photo so we could work out where the air intake was! The air comes in through the push rod tube! The rocker arms are in those enormous roller bearings. No oil pump, there is a paddle on the side of the crank that splashes oil on to roller bearings. The conrod is visible in the bottom photo and it's bigger than most trucks. To clean the sump you can put your hand in past the conrod. There is no oil filter. It's immaculate inside and will last forever.

They don't make em like they used to.
10 hp in a 32 foot ferro , for how many years?
And what was its life before that?
love it.

Nice one, even more 'agricultural' than an old Arona I pulled out of my Top Hat.
Whats the thing in the first photo, that the yellow line on the LHS runs to?, looks like an oil filter, but its not
cheers

Fuel line. That's the injector pump bottom left.

Theses engines were used in ships lifeboats for years.

The ferro yacht is quite a famous solo sailors vessel from years ago that featured in books but I can not recall the details now.

Nothing like an Arona. Only 10hp but it's enormous, the flywheel which is only partially visible in the photo is probably as heavy as an Arona. It came with a servo variable pitch prop type of gearbox that was too big to fit in this boat and he has adapted the little Hurth box. The engine is tall as well, the rocker cover is a few inches above the gunwale. As well as the large flywheel it has a large counterweight on the crankshaft. The engine is solid mounted and runs quiet and smooth.
