Hi guys,
Just wondering what insurance do you guys use for you sailboat. I am about to buy a 25ft. I got a quote from Youi ... and they ask $250/month 2600 excess for comprehensive insurance!! I am not ready to pay this much ...
Any insurance brokers to recommend?
Cheers,
Fabien
It helps to have a current marine surveyor's report when buying insurance or asking for a quote. I use NRMA and pay much less than your quote for a larger sail boat. Knowing the age of the standing rigging also helps; if it's over seven years you may find either raised eyebrows or prices or even no offer of insurance. Some companies have issues with boats on moorings rather than being kept in a marina.

This has been done to death search back q few pages.
I ended up going with abhm.com.au/ which are through QBE.
Haven't had a claim or anything with them but they have been nice to deal with over the phone and didn't need a survey etc..
I'm sure the PDS has conditions and terms in their favour etc however I', sure they all do....
Mines about $80/month for a 23ft on a swing mooring incl racing & I think the value is $25k
Hi Fabien try youi again. You will end up speaking to someone else and end up with different price
I first got knock back with youi then rang about 4 other insurance company they all wanted survey which was fair enough, problem is i needed insurance to haul boat out of water for survey but could get insurance because i didn't have survey catch 22 i then rang youi again spoke to a different person and now have insurance for $104 a month for 31 foot boat with $2500 excess
So it all depends who you talk to

But will they pay up when you need them to? Youi have a track record of not paying and/or making it hard to get them to pay claims.
I pay $900.28 per year to Pantaenius for my 34ft yacht with about $60,000 agreed value coverage.
Fabien, this is a recurring subject ! Here is food for thought and those that have heard me rant before forgive me but others might not think of it.
Ive paid third party only insurance the last 5 years now saving nearly $4000 and rely on my Trek Transponder warning and me to cover anything that might happen to my boat itself. There is a risk that something catastrophic could happen to the boat so fast I couldn't drive 1 hour to it and fix the problem. But in 40 years of boating it never has, I will risk it. Anyone else contemplating the idea needs to consider that.
Here are two pings from Trek cams on my boat in Pittwater right now so I KNOW alls OK though I am stuck at work in Parramatta:-

This time last year I tried to get 3rd party, no company was remotely interested, some WA underwriter was going to take me on for $900, I comprehensive insure a car for about a third of that ? you can guess the outcome. So trek who does 3rd party these days ?
I'm a bit like Morningbird, I'm leery after a friend lost his boat a year ago and really went through the wringer on the payout, so I am very focused on the t&c's.
$372 per month on a 40' with Nautilus for mine.
The premium starts at $500 for personal effects up to $5000 for MSRS.
Please refer to the thread:
Insurance you 0 : QVB 10
few months back!
(and don't try to save on insurance with high excess - please!
It is false economy!)

Woko, Youi. Also a smaller insurance company in Victoria said they would do third party too but because of my alcohol induced dementia I cant remember who it was.
