For this rainy weather a good bottle of vine and a movie is recommended. Non English speaking ones are also subject of interest. Any suggestions?

A bottle's not enough, you gotta take the whole vine hey..... Why not take the whole vineyard ??

Except for the obvious ones though, I can't actually help.

This is a classic starring Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman and Lisa Minelli. Enjoy!!!

I was a real fan of "Adventures in Paradise" when I was a kid. For some reason or other i Googled the show last week and was quite surprised how long ago it was made and the actors and guest stars. I think I was looking for the real name of the vessel and what happened to her. The list of owners after the show wrapped up was interesting.

For a movie "Deep Water". The Crowhurst story.

I had a quick glance at the middle one. Well known Australian actor guest star as the obvious bad guy!

For a feel good kind of movie try "Morning Light". It's a Disney movie, produced by Roy Disney, a relo of Walt. Basic story is that a bunch of rookie ocean sailors can take on the Trans-Pac, Roy lends them a TP52 and then trains them to be race ready and as it was filmed as it happened these kids aren't actors but real kids with a sailing background.

Deep Water: documentary on first non-stop round the world race. Excellent
Wild Eyes: Abby Sunderland Story
Maidentrip: Laura Dekker Story
Lionheart: Jesse Martin
The Dove: Robin Lee Graham 5yr round the world trip
Wind: Inspired by 1983 and 1987 America's Cup
Open Water 2: Adrift: Some idiots jump overboard and then can't get back onboard.
Master and Commander: Russell Crowe
White Squall: Based on loss of "Albatross" in 1961
The Perfect Storm: not about sailing though
Waterworld: did it have a yacht in it in one scene?

I saw a good feel-good french sailing movie recently, En Solitare (turning tide)

When we are at race week, we always watch master & commander in the afternoon to inspire us for the night race

Captain's Courageous - Filmed in 1937 on the Grand Banks Fishing Schooners. Its a great film and gives an insight on life aboard the Newfoundland fishing fleet.

Plot[edit]Harvey Cheyne (Freddie Bartholomew) is the spoiled son of an indulgent absentee father, business tycoon Frank Burton Cheyne (Melvyn Douglas). He is shunned by his classmates at a private boarding school, and eventually suspended for the remainder of the term due to bad behavior. His father realizes that the boy needs closer attention and guidance, so he takes his son with him on a business trip to Europe via a trans-Atlantic steamship.En route, Harvey, as a result of another display of arrogance, falls overboard in the area of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. He is rescued by a Portuguese-American fisherman, Manuel Fidello (Spencer Tracy), and taken aboard the fishing schooner We're Here. Harvey fails to persuade captain Disko Troop (Lionel Barrymore) to take him ashore, nor can he convince him of his wealth. However, the captain offers him a low-paid job as part of the crew until they return to port three months later. With no other choice, Harvey eventually accepts. Befriended by Captain Troop's son, Dan (Mickey Rooney), he begins to learn the ways of working at sea. Under the guidance of Manuel, and observing his equally tough crewmates, Harvey thrives, coming to learn that his former practices of cheating, bragging and whining are not an acceptable way of life. He also finds the father figure in Manuel he never had with his own father, and pleads with Manuel to allow him to remain on the We're Here after their return. In the climactic race back to the Gloucester, Massachusetts port against a rival schooner, the Jennie Cushman, Manuel climbs to the top of the mast to furl the sail, but is mortally injured when the mast cracks and he is plunged into the water, caught irreversibly in the tangled rope and the topsail canvas. Manuel is cut loose of the ropes to sink below the surface to his death, and Harvey loses his surrogate father and best friend. Eventually, the schooner returns to port and Harvey is reunited with his father. Rushing to Gloucester, Harvey's father is surprised to find that his self-centered child has become mature and considerate. Harvey refuses to be comforted by his father, preferring to mourn for Manuel alone, but eventually comes around.

For mine it's got to be Jackie Chan's 'The Drunken Master'.

One of his first-The dubbing is terrible, one-liners everlasting and most Sailors will be fond of and embrace it's title!

Drunken master yes was an awesome movie love the style. Much better than all is lost although I did get a few laughs out of Robert Redfords strategies for storm preparation don't forget to have a shave.

I too was an Adventures in Paradise tragic as a young boy. Whatever the acting abilities there was something magical about the travels of Troy Adams aboard his schooner Tikki. Perhaps much of the idyllic casual lifestyle projected by actor Gardiner McKay came from the fact he actually knew quite a bit about boats and was an experienced sailor with 8 Atlantic crossings by the age of 17.

I just watched Cisco's recommendation of 'the shipping news'. Slightly depressing and not quite what I was expecting, but a good movie.

I thought it was funny as hell when the guy came back to life during the wake they were having for him.

It is a different kind of movie but I am a big fan of Kevin Spacey.
