Does anyone now anything about this yacht - the Moody? I read they're a bit sluggish and don't point well?? But seems to be well priced and equipped. A bit boxed in down below.
Have been looking around for a family cruiser lately and this one seems ok in this price range.

Like the first one. Lot of boat for the money That Kalik 44 is still for sale and would be the faster boat. Golf diesel as well. Big price drop and asking for offers.

I have looked at one of these recently and it does 'look like a lot of boat for the money'.
I am wondering how it sails?

SA, im really liking that Corbin 39....why are you disliking the "double ender".
I have heard they are not popular (doesn't mean it is bad in my books....I sail a junk rig)
I would of thought less chance of broaching, when running in large seas, im just guessing as I don't know.

My dislike would be what looks like not full headroom inside, & that port-side high berth (probably only good for the cat!), I would turn the long seat in the wheelhouse into a seaberth (probably have to make it wider).

My likes are, looks like a good sail plan.
Lots of big ST winches

Some really great yachts have been put up in the posts but that Freedom 33 you put up HG I think is the best of them. Very nice.

Since I got my Lotus 9.2 though, I have hardly been looking at the brokerage sites. One might say I am justifying my purchase. I say not.

I say I have one of the best 30 footers ever designed and built. I have not really sailed her yet as I am steadily going through her getting everything the way it should be. There is no doubt in my mind that when I do go sailing her, my sailing expectations will be fully realised.

The progress is good. Engine is great and working well with the snake oil fuel additive that Ramona recommended. Anchor winch is fitted and working good and the cap shroud chain plates have been removed serviced and refitted. Next job is the lower shroud chain plates. They may need replacing or at least their bolts.

Here is my pick of the bargain boats available today. Needs work as all bargain boats do but a round bilge Adams 40 for $30,000 has to be looked at.

Gee you guys like buying junk. While the Adams is a good design and probably (but not guaranteed) structurally sound it is clearly leaking like a sieve and hasn't been used in a decade. The internal damage and mould indicate resealing all the toe rails, deck fittings, dodger, chain plates etc. The deck needs a clean but the rig will be shot and a new sail wardrobe. Probably new furler as well. Without use the engine and drive train will need considerable work as well.
If you buy it for $30K you spend every spare waking hour for 10 years to bring it up to speed, or $80-100K. 40 ft is a lot of boat, doing it yourself will be a labour of hate after a year or two.
You can buy a good sail away one needing $10k to get it just rightfor maybe $50-60K. Why would you buy this piece of someone else's rubbish? :-)

It has the word "steel" in the ad. Friend of mines centrecockpit steel Adams is up on the hard now. The idea was for a 3 month job but I can see it going past 12 months.

The costs of antifouling and slipping would cripple most of us.


a boat like that, I'd take to Thailand for a refit. After that, a world cruiser.

That Cat ketch must have some kind of forward daggerboard to balance the sail area so far forward. And a lightweight, shallow, canoe body, methinks.
No propwash evident!

There balsa cored hulls so you would have to be through making sure there not soggy and the wish bone model can be a little hard to raise the sails unlike the one above with a sail track.
