Currently I have 2x 27 non tailors hopefully it's a good investment!

Yes, Good Investment. They are a bit like Lazy Jacks when it comes to short handed or solo sailing.

Not many people have self as in personal tailOrs these days to make their suits.

However it would be hard these days to find a self respecting sailOr that would not have winches that were not self tailErs.

My boat doesn't have self tailers but it does have a cleat directly behind the winch so when I have the sail where I want it normally one turn around the cleat will hold it

The boat I crew on it has self tailers but normally I kneel over the winch, tail with my left hand and winch with my right and when it is in I put it in the tailer to hold it

I wouldn't mind a set of self tailers but it is hard to justify spending two thousand dollars on a new set

Regards Don

There is some sort of add on that you can buy to sort of make them self tailors.. My boat has the cleats also and that will be fine for me

I always have trouble with that word too. Guarentee, spell check says that is wrong so guarantee is what it says is right but then again spell check is American spelling isn't it??

Back on topic:- self tailers are tailor made for short handed sailing. And so there you go with spell check saying that tailers is wrong and tailors is right.

I think I will crawl back into my hole.

I thought they were self tailing winches. Tailors and tailer was a new variation for me.

I have an add on. It's a blue rubbery grooved ring that fits over the the top of the drum (tight fit). Seems to work OK.
There is a company that converts non tailers to self tailers but not all winches suit the conversion.

Thanks for all the comments , good to see Cisco has his pencil sharp Again! Anyway I'm about to jump on the plane to pick up my winches and car. I think they are reasonably priced and I can't see any on gumtree so I will grab them while I can!

They are winchers - not as good as the real thing but do the job.

Went shopping today!

Came back with a Car,
2x barlow 28 Self Taylor's ,
A 2kva honda (with gumbed up carb) ,
15 meters of 3 core tinned wire (for the cockpit windless control),
A TMC electric toilet and holding tank.

And really all I feel like doing is getting the sails up and going on a squid trip!

I'm thinking of fitting the new self TAYLORs in the aft position as on yesterday's sail I realised I couldn't go forward to dump sheet when I got the occasional gust with my passengers onboard. Bring Out Another Thousand !
why is it upside down?
