Hi HG

Happy with their decision but probably would be a loving it a bit more if Tassie was beside Fiji as it is a bit cool down here at the moment

I always wanted to buy up big on 44 Gallon drums and float Tassy due north for a couple of thousand miles Donk when I lived there . Never like walking on puddles
that you didn't get your feet wet in the middle of winter.

Hi HG

I love it down here on the Huon but this morning it was cold and foggy with a big frost and a bit of ice around

I had to take my wife to Hobart to the Hospital and as we went up the hill and emerged out of the fog it was a beautiful day with a blue sky and it was quite warm (about 12 degrees)

Spent about half a hour in Hobart enjoying the sunshine and then drove back down to the Huon as as we came to the top of the hill we could see that the valley was still blanketed with fog but the blue sky was above it with the snow capped Hartz peak in the distance and it looked beautiful

Back down into the fog and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees

The fog finally cleared around lunchtime and we had a couple of hours of sunshine before it started to get dark and cold again

It was a bit annoying to know the above the layer of fog it was a beautiful day

Regards Don

And here was me thinking that Donk lived in a rustic stone cottage with slate walls and a high aspect ratio ultra chic top loading wood heater.

Off topic Donk, but if you were to choose another Hobart suburb, perhaps a little warmer, where would you look? Snug? Kettering? Kingston?

Hi Sam

Wish it was then I wouldn't need to cart this stuff in on cold nights to keep it fed

Hi Yara

Temperature wise moving from the Huon to the Channel town you have mentioned probably would not make a lot of difference

Hobart and the towns down the Channel often have diffeent weather than what we have on the Huon but some times ours is better and other times theirs is so it probably balances itself out

As far as somewhere to live I much prefer the Huon over Hobart and i think we have better sailing waters as well

We get strong winds but mostly we have more shelter and flatter waters

Often when we do long races out into the channel it is a relief to reenter the Huon and not get belted around

On the Huon if it blows up you can normally find shelter on one side of the river or the other

We are about 40nm sail from Hobart and probably 10nm from the Channel so both are not that far away

I am probably biased but I think Port Huon is a great place to call home

Regards Don

I noticed that the titles refers to Tasmania as "Tasmainia", by extension are the inhabitants known as Tas-mainiacs?

My wife and I stayed at Snug Cove camping ground when we were in Tas for the Wooden Boat Festival. We made it as far as Cygnet and think that whole area is spectacular. Next time we will be going further to Franklin and Hastings etc. We have had a look at real estate prices and toyed with the idea of moving there in a few years.....you never know!

Hi Guitz

it is a great place to live as long as you are not too bothered by the cold and the price of realestate here is still pretty good compared to what you would get in a similar location on the mainland

I still reckon Tassie is in the Southern Ocean. Bounded by Southern Ocean from South Cape to Bass Strait on West Coast, Bass Strait to Eddystone Point, Tasman Sea (west Pacific???) down East Coast.
That is not a Pacific Island.
