Thumbs Up

Hi to all

I would like to encourage all the Tassie sailors to be involved in this years Pipe Opener series of three races to be held on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of September

The series is conducted by the Derwent Sailing Squadron and the Huon Yacht Club and consists of the following

Race one, a night race starts in Hobart at 7 pm on Friday 21st of September and finishes at Garden Island just inside the mouth of the Huon River and then the yachts motor up the Huon River where free berths will be available at the Port Huon marina

Race two, The Cock of the Huon, starts on Saturday afternoon at Port Huon at 1.30 pm and the yachts will race around our harbour course and then return to the marina

On Saturday night there is a dinner and prize presentation for the Cock of the Huon race at the Kermandie Hotel www.kermandie.com.au/ across the road from the marina

On Sunday morning the third race of the series starts at Port Huon at 9.30 am and the yachts race down the Huon River and out into the Channel to the finish line at Gordon

This is the 50th year of the Pipe Opener series and we are trying to encourage as many boats as possible to compete

The DSS is having some drama's with their website at the moment but i will post a link to the race information as soon as it is available

Any boats that are planning to stay at the Port Huon Marina for the weekend should contact Dean Marks on 0412744890 and he will make the necessary arrangements

I would also like to thank Ronald Young and Co Builders and Huon Aquaculture for their continued support of this race series

Here are a few photo's of last years Cock Of the Huon race on the beautiful Huon River

Regards Don
