gday peeps, I have been given a TopHat 25, its floating on a mooring I havent seen it yet, I was after a 24-8 footer fixed keel, this come my way I couldnt say no, ok its a fixer upper but it floats, has sails and a dunny Im happy.
Silly question number one, I have heard these have curcumnavigated , a trip up North in a well fitted out boat wouldnt be a tall order then, how bout a squirt over to the Solomons?
The fitouts on most of these show the usual opposed settees, I want to stretch the friendship here knock out one settee and fit a WC enclosed ****ter with shower and a chart table lil bit extra storage, a fold down bench can be added, only me and the minister for love and war, we only need one settee,
It has the outboard well.
What are the qualities of these both in the sea and in general
Hey Buchanan I'm going to try and not be disrespectful but here it goes. You are probably about to have your thread hyjacked about me being a troll because we have had new members talking about Top hats non stop. I'm sorry if that sounded harsh but for some reason they seem to be popular at the moment.
You can read about my past posts titled "Australia circumnavigation non-stop" and "Top Hat 25 mark 1,2 or 3" for details of how good of sea boats they are. This threads will answer pretty much any questions if the Top Hat that could possibly be asked.
PS If you want I can PM you a whole book of information on the Top Hat that I have learnt from this forum. To save the generous people on the forum from writing all their information multiple time. Sorry for your inconvenience.
Regards, mick

Big YES PLEASE to your photos.
Boat porn on this site is as good as currency.
It's funny to see photos of caprice as she's right near my mooring in curembene. Ironically the new owner trucked her from ulladulla to curembene creek. It's only 20nm sail! I've never seen him sailing caprice. She's light blue now. Same stern rail.
I think I'm destined to use my tophat for my journey. She's ready to go when the boats I'm looking at are not , with issues that are just not applicable to my girl.

Hey mate, do you reckon you could take some photos of Caprice the next time you see her? Good to hear about your trip. I reckon you should be right, if not we will have to start a thread called "what happened to sectorsteve?"

Any moorings down that way Sectorsteve, eventually mine has to come up from Sydney, Batemans Bay is closer but Ulladulla or a bit further down the Princess wont matter, anywheres closer then Pittwater
My advice is make the boat seaworthy and go sail her, before you make any changes. Then review your design changes based on experience.
