I'm thinking about sailing from Wirrina Cove to Cape Jaffa (then onto Robe) for Easter, which looks like it would be a fantastic beam reach on a south-westerly (after pointing initially to round Cape Jervis).

I know one can expect to encounter LOTS of cray pots in this part of the world. Kingston S.E. is the home of the big cray after all.

I was wondering if there are any other hazards I should be worried about (apart from the usual stuff the Southern Ocean throws up.)

Here's the route:

Very strong currents through backstairs passage, potentially wind against tide which would be very uncomfortable, potentially large swell depending on how far out you go and no where to pull in if it turns nasty. Having said that pick your weather and you will be fine. Robe entrance can be shallow and I would try to do it during the day but that's just me.

Robe will also be very busy for Easter and it's also the Robe Easter windsurf, kite, SUP weekend which will be all time

Thanks dralyagmas. I think I'll end up staying at the new Cape Jaffa Marina, and possibly do a separate excursion onto Robe. I'll be taking my kitesurfing gear too for sure.
